The Porsche 911 Safari could become a reality within two years
Porsche showed a prototype a few months ago at the Nürburgring that fit the idea of a modern 911 Safari, and it seems it will become a reality in 2023.
Porsche has always been a brand of tradition, an attitude reflected in the Porsche 911, a model that stays true to its principles while adapted to today’s technology and needs. The latest generation of the German sports car continues to show this, but everything suggests it wants to do so with even more insistence and, if anything, more nostalgia. Not long ago, a curious test mule of the Porsche 911 was spotted at the Nürburgring, raising suspicions that could be confirmed: the 911 Safari could return with the 992 within two years.
For now, the people in Stuttgart have not issued any official statement on the matter, but a possible leak of a roadmap could confirm that this prototype indeed hides a 911 Safari. To understand the history of this name, we must go back to the 1970s, when Porsche decided to take part in rallies with its sports car.
This variant triumphed in various competitions, and its success was such that today many have decided to convert standard 911s into Safari versions. With this in mind, it is not far-fetched to think that Porsche wants to bring back the 911 Safari, a model that could already have become a reality with the 911 991, as shown by those secret prototypes that came to light relatively recently.

However, this hypothetical modern Porsche 911 Safari would have to meet certain commercial requirements to fit well in the market. Today, the German manufacturer has an important lineup of SUVs, so an off-road-capable 911 could quickly be overshadowed by the greater practicality offered by a Cayenne or a Macan.
With this in mind, and considering that a 911 with off-road credentials would not have much room either, everything suggests it will be a special edition created to pay tribute to its ancestor. In this way, the contemporary 911 Safari will have a good chance of being a success and a collectible item for many fans of the brand.

If the leaks are accurate and Porsche does not rule out the project, we could witness the Porsche 911 Safari in 2023. Either way, everything suggests the German manufacturer wants to remain tied to its iconic past, which coexists peacefully and harmoniously with a present and a future in which electric powertrains have an increasingly important role.
