The Stuttgart-based brand is gearing up for the official unveiling of the Porsche Taycan 2020. The chosen venue is the Frankfurt Motor Show, which will take place next September, and the manufacturer has already begun testing a lightly camouflaged prototype designed to turn heads.

The new prototype of the Porsche Taycan is wrapped in camouflage that combines black with blue lines. There is no doubt this test mule cannot be mistaken, as it is also dressed with six other Taycan logos. In addition, the spied model carries messages reading “Electrified soul”.

Beyond the new wrap, the prototype looks virtually production-ready. It follows the lines of its concept, the Porsche Mission E, but adopts a unique front bumper with three blocked air intakes. Higher up, you can see the recessed headlights and functional intakes that channel air to the model’s high-performance braking system.

The profile of the Porsche Taycan 2020 is quite elegant, featuring a flowing bodywork and a roof with a gentle slope. Other notable features include vents on the front wings, aerodynamic side skirts and a charging port mounted on the driver’s side.

Porsche Taycan 2020, will we get to know it before its presentation?

At the rear, the Stuttgart brand’s model has a very distinctive look, as it does without an exhaust system given that it is an electric car. This is replaced by a prominent diffuser that helps improve aerodynamics. A practical tailgate and familiar rear lights can also be seen.

The spy photographers did not get close enough to capture the interior, but the earlier images showed that the model will have a digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel. A widescreen infotainment system and a central console that fits the dashboard and driver’s seat can also be expected.

Although Porsche has not yet published the detailed specifications of its electric car, some sources and reports have confirmed that the Porsche Taycan 2020 will have two new electric motors producing a combined output of over 600 CV. This will allow the German electric sports car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in under 12 seconds.

In terms of range, drivers can expect to travel more than 500 kilometres on a single charge under the new European driving cycle known as WLTP. Let us recall that the Porsche Taycan will reach the market in September, and the brand recently announced that it had more than 20,000 interested customers who have already put down 2,500 euros as a booking deposit.

Detlev von Planten, head of Sales and Marketing at Porsche, has confirmed that, after seeing the genuine interest generated by the first electric sports car from Porsche, the German brand has already planned to increase production capacity at the Zuffenhausen plant. The arrival of the Porsche Taycan has created 1,200 new jobs at this factory.
