The BMW M8 Competition has arrived. It will be available in coupé and convertible versions, and both will offer 625 CV of power.

The BMW M8 Competition has arrived in two versions: coupé and convertible, or cabrio as the Bavarian brand itself calls it. Under the bonnet, the standard BMW M8 versions feature a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 borrowed from the current BMW M5, capable of delivering 600 CV and a peak torque of 750 Nm.

Now, thanks to this update, the BMW M8 Coupé Competition and the BMW M8 Convertible Competition are more aggressive, delivering 625 CV of power and a peak torque of 750 Nm.

All members of the BMW M8 family come equipped with an advanced xDrive all-wheel-drive system coupled to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The standard BMW M8 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, and 3.4 seconds in the convertible version.

Now, the BMW M8 Competition models are slightly quicker, having shaved off a tenth in each case, bringing the times to 3.2 seconds for the coupé variant and 3.3 seconds for the convertible variant.

BMW M8 Competition, all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive?

The all-wheel-drive system in the BMW M8 family incorporates an active M differential and includes two standard driving modes: all-wheel drive and all-wheel drive Sport. Notably, if drivers switch off the dynamic stability control, they can select a rear-wheel-drive driving mode that sends all the power to the rear axle.

BMW has stated that it is particularly proud of the new suspension setup of the BMW M8 Competition, which features adaptive dampers specific to M vehicles and the electromechanical M Servotronic steering.

The car’s dynamic stability control system offers a dynamic M mode that allows a greater degree of wheel slip. Other important chassis elements include the aluminium cross-brace fitted to the rear axle, an X-shaped steel brace, reinforced roll bars and a rigid transparent panel with integrated side connections.

Even if customers opt for carbon-ceramic brakes on their models, all will include an integrated brake system that brings together activation, boosting and brake control functions in a compact module. Drivers can choose between a pedal for more comfortable driving and one where the feel is far more direct and instantaneous.

As for technology equipment, the BMW M8 models come loaded with the Head-Up Display, the Driving Assistant, the Parking Assistant and the BMW Live Cockpit Professional. In addition, the centre console features a button to select M Mode. This system allows drivers to choose between Road, Sport and Track driving modes on the BMW M8 Competition, whether in coupé or convertible form.
