The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT also breaks records at the Shanghai International Circuit
The Porsche team travelled to the Chinese city of Shanghai’s circuit to set a new fastest lap record and make it clear who is king.
In a display of power and might, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has reached a new milestone by setting the fastest lap record at the Shanghai International Circuit, a 5.4-kilometre track regularly used by Formula 1. Porsche driver Lars Kern set a record time of 2:11.28 minutes, making the Taycan Turbo GT the fastest production vehicle on this prestigious track.
This record, the first officially recognised by the Chinese circuit, joins those already achieved in recent months at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and Laguna Seca. In this way, Porsche has achieved a fastest lap record on three different continents with this model.

The choice of Shanghai, on the other hand, was no accident. The Stuttgart-based firm has maintained a close relationship with China, where it operates one of its experience centres at the circuit’s facilities. It is therefore no surprise that this circuit was chosen over any other to try to make a difference in the Asian market too, one of the most important for the brand.
Only the new Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package could achieve a feat like this
The Taycan Turbo GT is the version offering the highest performance on the track in the revamped Taycan range. Equipped with two electric motors, it delivers up to 815 kW of power, with torque reaching 1,340 Nm. This allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a dazzling 2.2 seconds, while its top speed has been increased from 260 to 305 km/h to improve its competition performance.
“Every circuit presents unique challenges. We wanted to demonstrate the capabilities of the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package on three very different circuits around the world. This global approach has seen the Taycan triumph in Europe, the Americas and now Asia too.”

According to the Porsche team, the conditions in which the fastest lap was set at the Shanghai circuit with the Taycan Turbo GT were not exactly ideal. The capricious weather complicated matters, with intermittent rain and a track that was slightly damp throughout the lap. That is why it is even more surprising that this time was achieved, they say.

The unit used to set this record was equipped with a complete safety system, including a roll cage and a racing seat. These elements are absolutely necessary but, however, have a negative impact on performance due to the increase in the vehicle’s weight. The choice of optional Pirelli Trofeo RS tyres, however, allowed the Taycan Turbo GT to demonstrate its supremacy on the Shanghai asphalt.
