Porsche Taycan Electric Cars Sports Cars
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT will make its debut this weekend as the new Safety Car for Formula E
The production version of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has a price in Germany of around 240,000 euros.
Formula E fans will have an extra incentive this weekend at the Berlin Grand Prix, which takes place on 11 and 12 May. Porsche has chosen this very event, held in its home country, to debut two units of the new Taycan Turbo GT as Safety Cars. According to the manufacturer, both vehicles will feature some slight modifications to better suit the task entrusted to them. Among these modifications are warning lights, high-tech communication equipment, and fire extinguishers.
The two units of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT that we will see this weekend at the Berlin Grand Prix will be clearly distinguishable. One of them will sport an exclusive paint colour, “Cielo Purpura Metálico“, and will also be fitted with the Weissach package to improve its performance on track. This unit will therefore feature a rear spoiler of considerable size and special racing seats.

The second unit of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT will be far more conventional, with a paint colour in this case of “Sombra Verde Metálico“. This unit will be more road-going, without the Weissach package installed and with rear seats in the second row.
Can you think of a better alternative? We’re all ears
The extraordinary performance the new Porsche Taycan Turbo GT offers on track, together with its fully electric propulsion system, have made this model the best candidate to take on the role of safety car in Formula E.
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has two electric motors, one on each axle, which together deliver up to 760 kW. This power can also be increased for a couple of seconds, up to 815 kW, by activating the so-called “Attack Mode“. The torque with Launch Control activated is, on the other hand, 1,240 Nm according to the manufacturer.

As far as the battery pack is concerned, it has a net capacity of 97 kWh, allowing a range of up to 554 km on a single charge under the WLTP homologation cycle. Thanks to its 800V architecture, the Taycan Turbo GT also supports charging power of up to 320 kW, making it possible to take the battery’s state of charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. If we opt, however, for an AC wallbox to complete the charging process, the total time will stretch to 11 hours.

Porsche states that the first deliveries of the Taycan Turbo GT will take place this very spring, so we shouldn’t have to wait long to see this high-performance sports car on European roads. In the meantime, we’ll have to make do with seeing it as the Formula E Safety Car.
