The production volume at Tesla's German plant in Grünheide falls, but profits increase

Tesla Manufacturing Brandenburg SE closed the 2025 fiscal year at its German plant in Grünheide with a positive result, raising net profits to 77.1 million euros, compared with 56.8 million the previous year. This growth occurred despite a decline in revenue, which fell from about 7.7 billion to 7.1 billion euros, as well as a reduction in production, which came to 202,000 units, around 9,000 vehicles fewer than in 2024. Capacity utilisation at the plant also dropped slightly, from 56 to 54 percent.

The reduction in production volume was mainly due to the restructuring and adaptation of the assembly lines. The company prepared the plant for new versions of the Model Y, such as the one currently at the top of the range, called Performance. On the other hand, Tesla also created a new assembly line at the German plant for export to Canada. These changes caused temporary stoppages and subsequently required a further period of ramp-up.

At the end of 2025, the plant had around 11,000 employees, including temporary workers. In Grünheide, Tesla produces only the Model Y SUV.

Ambitious plans for Grünheide

Looking ahead to 2026, Tesla expects to achieve a significantly higher production volume, also increasing the utilisation of its facilities. The company has set itself the goal of gradually approaching a production volume of 7,500 units per week, which would equate to around 375,000 vehicles a year. To achieve this, it will begin hiring two thousand additional employees in the production area. This greater capacity will allow it to supply more than 30 international markets already served by the German plant in Grünheide, with plans to continue expanding its reach.

In parallel, Tesla continues to advance battery cell production in Grünheide. Although the initial annual report referred to a capacity of up to 8 GWh per year, the company announced in May a major expansion that will raise planned capacity to 18 GWh, earmarking around 220 million euros of additional investment for this purpose. The project will generate around 1,500 new jobs and production is expected to begin in the first half of 2027.
