The Renault Captur E-TECH expands its hybrid range with the new 145 PS engine

Renault continues to grow its catalogue of members in the E-TECH family of hybrid vehicles, now with the new 145 CV engine for the Captur

Launched in 2013, the Renault Captur has become a real success for the diamond brand around the world and in Spain, where it has sold 131,000 units, establishing itself as the best-selling B-segment SUV. Indeed, the Captur was one of the models that Renault told us last year would incorporate E-TECH technology into its range, which means the hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions.

Renault has drawn on its experience in competitions such as Formula 1 to transfer the knowledge acquired to its road cars. Let us recall that since 2014 the use of hybrid engines and kinetic energy recovery systems has been mandatory, which has helped the French brand develop up to 150 patents that bring this high-competition technology to the vehicles the rest of us can buy.

As we told you earlier, the Renault Captur E-TECH already had the 160 CV plug-in hybrid version in its catalogue, and now it expands its range with a new full hybrid version. The formula remains the same: under the bonnet is a naturally aspirated 1,600 cc petrol engine delivering 90 CV, together with two electric motors, one acting as generator/starter and the other as the driving motor. For this new version they develop a combined output of 145 CV and a torque of 148 Nm. Working together with this hybrid system is the Multimode transmission, which is characterised by having neither a clutch nor synchronisers.

With this mechanical configuration, the Renault Captur E-TECH hybrid can accelerate to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 170 km/h. Turning now to consumption and emissions, according to the WLTP test cycle it registers a combined consumption varying between 5.0 and 5.3 l/100 km, along with CO2 emissions that also range between 110 and 116 g/km.
