The substitute for the Porsche 918 Spyder does not exist yet, but it could look like this render

Porsche and its 918 Spyder closed another chapter in the history of the engine, and now comes this render of an electric car set to replace it.

We are sure many of us have fantasised about new models or about the revival of some of the most epic vehicles of all time. The same is happening to Badih Tabet, a young designer who has brought to life a very special render, the supposed substitute for the Porsche 918 Spyder. This iconic model continued the saga begun by the 959, which was succeeded by the Carrera GT, and that by the 918. Now that the German firm is taking its first steps into the electric sector, we can get an idea of what its supercars of tomorrow will look like.

As a rule, renders are based on test mules already on the road or on teasers released by the brand itself, but in this case it is different. Tabet had to start from foundations that do not exist, since Porsche has not yet hinted at any data about this supposed hypercar. To develop it, the young designer has relied not only on his imagination, but also on the prototypes of the German brand.

These latter ones have shown a design language clearly distinct from the rest of the vehicles that make up Porsche’s model range, and which promise a completely new era within the firm. On the one hand, we see a clear and logical inspiration from the 918, but we also quickly attribute to this render features of the electric concept car on which the forthcoming Taycan will be based, the Mission E.

This leads us to consider that the designer firmly believes Porsche’s future hypercar will be electric, an idea that is by no means far-fetched considering the direction the brand is taking. We can reach that conclusion merely by looking at the front of this prototype, where Porsche’s electric car lighting has been applied.

As for the rear, we can see certain similarities with the 918 Spyder, such as the LED light strip arranged horizontally to span the entire rear. At the same time, two humps carry on the essence of both the Carrera GT and the 918, but in this case they would house several batteries and electric motors.

We are looking at a vehicle that does not necessarily have to anticipate anything, but the use of these lines and design language has been very successful on the part of its creator. For the moment Porsche has made no statement about the empty space the 918 has left in its model range, but considering that the next hypercar from McLaren and from Aston Martin will arrive very soon, Porsche may not take long to make its move.
