The Suzuki Jimny Mata will be the last non-electrified engine model in Europe

This variant of the Suzuki Jimny will be ready for sale on the Italian market starting November 30, and it will be the last with a pure combustion engine.

The end of the current generation of the Suzuki Jimny is approaching, but a mid-cycle update will arrive first. Before that, the Japanese brand wanted to offer a special variant that will bring this first part of its generational cycle to an end. This version will be limited to only 150 units and will be sold exclusively on the Italian market.

The Suzuki Jimny Mata is based on the concept car presented at the last Turin Motor Show, with elements from that model, but making it clear that it is a Jimny, with all its characteristics and strengths. The elements carried over from the prototype give it a retro look that uses rugged and very appealing details.

On the exterior of this special Jimny, a two-tone paint scheme stands out, combining metallic silver with matte black details on the bonnet, pillars and roof. The vintage grille gives it a retro touch that makes it a very interesting off-roader.

An aluminium protective plate runs along the side sills and contrasts with the unpainted plastic bumper and wheel arches. There are also protective strips on the doors and mud flaps. The wheels fitted to this version are 15 inches, and at the rear of the off-roader there is a cover for the spare wheel. As an extra, additional aluminium protection has been added to the underbody.

The interior is quite simple and similar to that of the standard Jimny. In terms of equipment, it features a seven-inch screen for the infotainment system, along with a Pioneer sound system. It also enjoys a rear-view camera, heated seats, and a comprehensive range of ADAS.

Like all Jimnys with European specification, it is only available with two seats, in order to comply with emissions regulations. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine produces 101 CV and 130 Nm of torque, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

A name with a message

The word Mata has an important meaning in Japanese. It means “again, beyond” and is used in the form Mata-ne, which means “See you soon“. The name was therefore chosen to signal that this is the last chance to have a Jimny until it returns with a different powertrain.

The next Jimny will possibly have a hybrid engine and will move from being a light commercial vehicle to a passenger vehicle, which is what it really is.

For the time being, the order book will open on November 30, so this model will soon be seen circulating on Italian roads.
