The Suzuki S-Cross adopts mild-hybrid technology and becomes safer from its entry-level version onward
Suzuki upgrades the 1.4 BoosterJet engine and introduces mild-hybrid technology to the S-Cross, which will also include new safety systems in its entry-level version

Suzuki closed 2019 announcing that its models would adopt mild-hybrid technology, a logical step that the Japanese manufacturer seems to have delayed as long as possible until it had no other option. In fact, just a few days ago we got behind the wheel of the Vitara mild-hybrid to share our impressions. This is the path Suzuki has chosen for the electrification of its models, and it continues to advance along it, now presenting a new member, the S-Cross mild-hybrid.
The Suzuki S-Cross will continue to use the 1.4 BoosterJet engine as before, but for those who want a more efficient vehicle, there will always be the option of the 1.4 BoosterJet with mild-hybrid technology. This new engine will maintain the same level of performance as the conventional variant, but we will benefit from greater fuel consumption efficiency, estimated at between 15% and 20% depending on the version, and our S-Cross will also qualify for the ECO label.

Taking advantage of the introduction of the mild-hybrid variant, Suzuki has improved the 1.4 BoosterJet engine, which is now called the K14D. While it retains its 130 CV power output, its torque figures are slightly higher, reaching 235 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The direct injection system with seven holes has also been optimized to improve the quantity, timing and pressure of the injected fuel, along with a compression ratio increased to 10.9, which also improves the feel of this turbo engine.
The new 1.4 BoosterJet engine can be supported by the hybrid system called SHVS, which integrates a 48 V ISG generator with electric motor function, a 48-volt lithium-ion battery and a 48 V to 12 V DC/DC converter. The SHVS system’s support of the combustion engine adds electric torque and a momentary power boost of 10 kW. It is also capable of keeping the engine running at idle and avoiding fuel use during deceleration phases, thus improving the efficiency of the whole system.

In addition, Suzuki has also wanted to upgrade the entry-level GLE version of the S-Cross, introducing safety systems that until now were reserved for the top-of-the-range GLX version. As a result, the GLE version will also feature RBS Predictive Braking Control and Adaptive Cruise Control, the latter combining cruise control with the radar of the Predictive Braking Control. It is also worth noting that Suzuki has also improved its AllGrip 4WD traction system, now offering a higher level of safety in any condition.
The Suzuki S-Cross with the new 1.4 BoosterJet mild-hybrid engine is now available at Spanish dealerships, with a starting price of 22,395 euros for the GLE version and from 24,950 euros for the GLX version.
