The Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling electric car in 2022. Do you know which the others are?

2022 has come to an end and it is time to take stock and see how sales of electric cars have evolved during this year. The figures for this type of vehicle remain low and do not represent a high percentage, unlike what happens in Norway, for example. But even so, electric cars continue to grow in the market and more and more are being sold each year. Few, but more every year.

In total, during 2022 36,452 units of various electric models were registered. This means that an increase of 31.28% was recorded compared to 2021. As for market share, electric cars account for just 3.79% of the total. A figure that is still very low, but which keeps rising year after year.

The best-selling electric cars in 2022

The end of 2022 gives us the data we needed to discover which electric car has been the best seller during the year. It is no surprise, since it is the model that has led sales globally across almost all of Europe. The Tesla Model 3 stood out against all the other offerings and managed to register 2,676 units.

Behind the American model we find an electric city car, the Fiat 500e, which trails quite far behind. In total, 1,867 units of this model were registered. One unit behind, in third place of the ranking, is the Tesla Model Y, which managed to sell 1,866 units.

The list goes on and you can see it below, but we are going to mention the Dacia Spring as one of the Spaniards’ favourites. Its low price and urban performance make it a very suitable vehicle for getting around the city sustainably. It recorded 1,040 units, which place it among the last three, but with quite interesting figures.

The list is closed by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6, both with 918 units sold. These are figures that do not place the electric car in a relevant position in the Spanish market, but they need to change in order to put these vehicles where they should be so that we can forget about combustion engines by 2035.
