The Volkswagen Golf VIII couldn't wait and has leaked ahead of schedule

The new Volkswagen Golf is set to be unveiled on October 24, but an indiscreet fan has decided to photograph a unit and show it to us ahead of schedule.

One of the most anticipated refreshes of this year 2019 is that of the Volkswagen Golf, a model whose seventh generation has several years on its back. After spotting different test mules, the German firm has finally confirmed the arrival of its favorite child through some sketches and alongside a date: October 24. However, the Golf VIII has not been able to keep its anonymity intact and has fallen victim to an indiscreet photographer who, without hesitation, has decided to share his find through social media.

As is customary, Volkswagen has already prepared several pre-production units ready to show the world what awaits with the new Golf. However, this carries a risk: anyone with a phone and a bit of car knowledge can catch it red-handed and capture all its features, which are no longer protected by camouflage.

And it’s no wonder, since the Volkswagen Golf could be considered the genuine precursor of the compact segment. With this model, a new lineage began not only within the brand but across the automotive sector, where various manufacturers decided to adopt the concept that Volkswagen gave birth to with the Golf and shape it to their liking.

But what novelties will the Golf VIII offer?

Lacking an extensive press release detailing all the data about the new Golf, we must limit ourselves to making certain assumptions. But let’s start with the obvious: styling. Visually, we find a vehicle that faithfully respects the original concept of the Golf, where restrained dimensions keep it within the compact segment.

The front end is led by the new Volkswagen logo and a thin chrome horizontal line that runs across headlights of a new, much sleeker and more modern shape. The bumper shows no apparent novelties beyond a somewhat more aggressive design, but we must bear in mind that everything points to the photographed unit being one of the most basic trim levels.

However, the cabin is an area we should not overlook so easily. In that zone we can see two screens, joined together, which will handle the Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster and the infotainment system. On the left corner, a new light control stalk is a novelty, but a detail we must highlight and that we find pleasing is the six-speed manual gearbox resting calmly on the centre console.

Be that as it may, it won’t be until October 24 that we discover all the details surrounding the new Volkswagen Golf. We can anticipate a range of both petrol and diesel engines, accompanied by a mild-hybrid system featuring a 48V BAS alternator, a clear nod to future hybrid and electric variants.
