The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra reaches the Chinese market at a price lower than expected

It is therefore no surprise that, according to the manufacturer, the number of orders received during the first few hours has exceeded all expectations.

Xiaomi has just announced the launch in its home market of the high-performance version of its only electric model so far. Chinese customers who wish to do so can already place an order for the SU7 Ultra, at a price that is also considerably cheaper than expected.

The manufacturer initially announced a base price of 814,900 yuan, which at the current exchange rate is roughly 107 thousand euros. However, the final price has been set at 529,900 yuan, roughly 70 thousand euros at the exchange rate. That is a difference of more than 35 thousand euros, which will surely please all those who already planned to buy it regardless of price, and will encourage others to take the plunge.

Xiaomi has not explained the reasons that allowed it to cut the price of the SU7 Ultra so drastically, although they are probably related to reduced assembly costs for the vehicle.

Power is not lacking

The SU7 Ultra shares the same propulsion system as the prototype that set a lap time of 6:46.874 minutes on the German Nordschleife circuit last October. This system includes three electric motors, two of them rated at 425 kW each, which are equivalent to a combustion V8 engine, and another one rated at 288 kW. Together, the three motors deliver a combined output of 1,138 kW and a maximum torque of 1,770 Nm.

It is important to note, however, that the series production units will not be able to match the time set at Nordschleife by that prototype, since the latter had some carbon fibre components that reduced its total weight.

For those who want maximum performance on the track, Xiaomi has announced optional extras such as the Racing Package, as well as a limited edition called the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The details of these packages will be revealed after new tests of the SU7 Ultra at the Nordschleife have been carried out.

Other features worth highlighting

With its aerodynamic kit, the SU7 Ultra measures 5.12 metres long, 1.97 wide and 1.47 high, with a wheelbase of three metres. The design features a prominent front splitter to improve downforce, enlarged air intakes to cool the motors and battery, and an active two-stage rear diffuser that optimises drag and efficiency. The 1.56-metre rear spoiler, although fixed, completes the aerodynamic package.

Finally, it should be noted that, as expected, demand for the SU7 Ultra has been overwhelming. According to the manufacturer itself, more than 10 thousand binding orders were received in just the first two hours after the launch.
