This exclusive and strange Volkswagen Corrado G60 Shooting Brake is for sale

Talking about the Volkswagen Corrado means talking about a myth, one of those cars that stirred real passion in the golden age of motoring and high-performance models. It is the kind of car that, without countless hundreds of horsepower, was (and is) loaded with sensations.
Launched at the end of the 1980s, the Volkswagen Corrado arrived as the Premium sibling with the coupé body of the Volkswagen Golf. A very German exterior design full of horizontal lines and right angles on all its sides, paired with an interior of high quality for its time. Today, it is a car with a multitude of fans around the world.
Mechanically it was available only with petrol engines, like real sports cars. Its range of outputs started at just over 100 horsepower and went up to nearly 200 in the VR6 versions, passing through the astonishing G60 technology of the era with its 160 horsepower. All of this with a weight of around 1,200 kilos.
The reason for the explanation above is to set the scene for the unit we are looking at. It turns out that a dealership has just put up for sale a Volkswagen Corrado with the famous G60 engine from Volkswagen. But it is not just any Corrado; in fact it is not even a Corrado coupé, but a prototype with a family estate body, what we today would know as a Shooting Brake.

It was built in 1990 as a proposal to bring this model into production, but in the end it remained just that, a proposal. The unit we see in the pictures, according to the codes on the grille, uses a powertrain with the G60 supercharger, meaning it must have a supercharged 1.8 with 160 horsepower.
The Volkswagen Corrado G60 of the time was capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 in 8.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 225 km/h, so this “family” unit should not be far behind.
Although the seller does not state how many kilometres the car has covered, in one of the photographs we can see that the instrument cluster shows a little over 13,400 kilometres.
Its visual condition is hard to improve and, if the odometer figure is correct, we are practically dealing with a brand-new car that in its time never found a place in the market. Its price is 50,000 dollars according to the seller, which at the exchange rate comes to roughly 44,300 euros.
