This is the renewed Renault Scenic: now, being an MPV doesn't mean being boring

Just a few days before the start of a new edition of the Geneva Motor Show, the guys at Renault have unveiled one of their most important products.

We’re talking about the fourth generation of the Renault Scenic, their compact MPV par excellence and one of the pioneers of this segment, which is so popular in Europe.

The story of the Renault Scenic began in 1996, just a few months after the launch of the first generation of the Megane, when the French brand responded to growing customer demand for more space for an ever-larger family, without the need to buy a full-size MPV.

The Renault proposal was an overwhelming success from the very first moment, and now three generations, having sold almost 5 million units, have given birth to this fourth one, which arrives with a completely new style that aims to break with the past and, quite literally, become the perfect example of the MPVs of the future.

After 5 million units sold, nobody doubts the success and popularity of the Scenic

We still know little about the new generation apart from three official photographs that have been circulating online for just a few hours. The brand has been very restrained with its information, and we will have to wait until the Show to learn all the technical details and interior features in depth.

The new Scenic offers a very carefully crafted design that has little in common with its predecessor. Even so, it is immediately recognisable as a Renault thanks to a front end very similar to that of the brand’s latest models. The large logo takes centre stage, and it is joined by headlights similar to those of the Kadjar. Of course, it will feature the brand’s signature LED light signature.

The basic lines of the Scenic are a blend of the bestselling Captur and the new generation of Espace. For the first time on the Scenic, there is a glazed A-pillar, a trend taken directly from the Espace. However, the rear recalls the Captur more, thanks to the larger amount of solid bodywork.

It seems the chassis now has a longer wheelbase, which should translate into better road stability and more interior space. Naturally, the engines will be the same as those fitted to the new generation of Megane, pending confirmation of the arrival of higher-spec versions, which would result in the first “Scenic GT” in the model’s history.
