Top10: the best-selling SUVs of 2018
Once again, the SUV market continues to grow. Once again, this trend confirms that the 10 best-selling SUVs of 2018 are also part of the club of new cars with the highest sales
Whether you like them or not, the best-selling SUVs in 2018 are also superstars. According to the data provided in the annual new car sales report for 2018 by ANFAC, FACONAUTO and GANVAM, the cars with the greatest interest for buyers are part of the club.
The fact that nearly 38% of new registrations have been SUVs of every kind makes it clear that this is a product that, far from reaching its peak, still has a lot to offer, given the arrival of the most anticipated new SUVs of 2019.
All segments, except for premium SUVs, which fell 4.9%, saw increases compared with 2017 sales, with the largest rise among small SUVs.
The podium of the best-selling SUVs of 2018
Be that as it may, in the Top 10 SUVs, the 10 best-selling SUVs of 2018, the Nissan Qashqai repeats in first place. A Nissan Qashqai that, despite its longevity, has received a thorough update that has undoubtedly boosted its sales.
On the podium of the Top 10 best-selling SUVs of 2018 are two siblings, two Peugeot that have literally fought down to the last unit for second place, since between the Peugeot 3008 and the Peugeot 2008 there was only a difference of 196, fewer than 200 new cars sold between the second and third best-selling SUVs of 2018.
And it is quite significant that the first and third of the three best-selling SUVs are included in our selection of the Top 10 best SUVs under 25,000 euros, and the second is part of our selection of the best SUVs under 18,000 euros.
Left off the podium of the best-selling SUVs of 2018…
Behind the three best-selling SUVs of 2018 there is a technical tie, since between the 19,368 units sold of the Seat Arona, the fourth SUV in the ranking, and the Volkswagen Tiguan, sixth, there is a minimal absolute difference of 38 cars. In between, the Renault Captur, the fifth best-selling SUV of the year, which in 2017 was the third best-selling SUV.
Another SUV losing momentum this year is the Hyundai Tucson, since after being the second best-selling SUV in 2017, in 2018 it only achieves seventh place. A similar situation to that of its “cousin,” the also Korean Kia Sportage, which has dropped from seventh place in 2017 to ninth last year.
Squeezing in among them is the Seat Ateca. And Seat must be very pleased, since in addition to placing two of its SUVs in the top 10, it has ensured that the Seat León is the best-selling car of 2018, with the Seat Ibiza right behind it. Closing out the top 3 of the best-selling cars in Spain in 2018 is the aforementioned leader of SUVs, the Nissan Qashqai.
And, closing the list of the 10 best-selling SUVs, the Toyota C-HR. A model that, as a hybrid car, offered us an option different from the rest of its rivals, which is why we encourage you to read the road test of the Toyota C-HR that we drove.
