Toyota faces another blow to the nose: 270,000 vehicles worldwide would be recalled for inspection

A recall is acceptable when a manufacturer is trying to fix problems related to a vehicle’s design or its accessories, but it is not acceptable when the safety of the car and even the functioning of the engine itself are at stake due to a serious mechanical fault like this one. Yet Toyota will once again have to deal with a mass recall aimed at fixing a technical problem in the engines of 270,000 Lexus GS 350, GS 450h, GS 460, IS 350, LS 460, LS 600h, LS 600hL and the Toyota Crown.
This time there are no brake pedals jamming, nor fuel tanks that rupture in a rear-end collision. The new problem lies in the engines of the models mentioned, where the valve springs “function inappropriately”, making the car’s idle quite unstable and noisy. As a result, the engine could stall in certain cases not only at idle, but while driving, with dire consequences.
Of all the cars covered by the recall, 90,000 of them were sold in Japan, with the rest going to the rest of the world. In Spain, it is not known for certain how many could have this problem, but to give you an idea, around 3,200 cars with this defect have been reported in England.
Toyota is investigating the cause and will probably need to replace engine-related parts or upgrade its control software(sic), according to certain media outlets in Japan.
