Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition: a new, wild special edition of which only 200 units will be made

The sporting division of the Japanese brand has just unveiled its new GR Corolla Morizo Edition, a limited edition tailor-made for Akio Toyoda

Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition

Following the presentation just two months ago of the most fiery version of the Toyota GR Corolla, a variant that unfortunately will not reach Europe, the guys at Gazoo Racing have just unveiled their latest creation based on this spicy compact, creating a limited special edition that will undoubtedly win your heart.

Under the name Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition, this special edition is presented as the ultimate hot hatchback in the Toyota product range, since in addition to being a collector’s piece limited to 200 units, it has been tailor-made for the company’s president Akio Toyoda, hence its Morizo name, which is the Japanese executive’s nickname when he puts on his helmet to compete.

To begin with, regarding its styling, the new special edition retains a design almost identical to that of the conventional sporty variant, to which some distinctive details have been added, such as the new paint exclusive to this version called “Matte Steel”.

Its secret lies in the interior

Despite keeping five doors like the conventional version, the brand has decided to retain only the two front seats, dispensing with the rear seats to save weight. This GR Corolla Morizo Edition weighs 1,440 kilograms, that is, 30 kilograms less, thanks also to the incorporation of an aluminium bonnet and aluminium door panels, a carbon fibre roof and new 18-inch forged wheels signed by BBS.

Continuing with the interior, the front seats are bucket-type, upholstered in leather and Alcantara, as is the steering wheel, which features a red leather insert in the centre of its upper rim, making it clear that this machine is focused on track use. There is also more Alcantara on the gear lever and handbrake.

Under the bonnet, the engine of this Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition is the same three-cylinder 1.6-litre unit that produces 304 CV, although thanks to a series of changes the brand has made, it delivers a torque figure of 400 Nm, 30 Nm more than the GR Corolla. Paired with this engine are a six-speed manual gearbox, all-wheel drive and new suspension tuning, which make it the tailor-made plaything of Toyota’s top executive.
