Triturbo diesel for the BMW 5 Series

BMW will squeeze the maximum out of its 3-litre diesel engine by adding three turbochargers. Under this configuration, it is estimated to produce a maximum output of nearly 400 CV. No clues about torque.
The news broke after a photo of a label stuck to a bag of brake pads was published on Motor-Talk. It shows the designation M550dx, referring to the current generation of the 5 Series (whose saloon version is internally called F10 and estate F11).
If we break down the initials, M550dX refers to a 5 Series version with the M Sport package, a diesel engine and xDrive all-wheel drive. As mentioned above, output will be around 400 CV, enough to rival the performance of its petrol sibling, the 550i (407 CV).
The triturbo diesel will not only be fitted to the 5 Series, but also to the X6 (where it is said to debut as the X6 xDrive50d) and in the upcoming update of the 7 Series (spy photos here).
