Unfortunately, the new Renault Kaptur will only be for Russia

Kaptur 1

At Renault they have thought about the Russian market, one of the most important in recent years despite its economic problems.

For them, the French firm has created the Kaptur, with a K, a vehicle based on our Captur but with greater off-road capabilities.

The Renault Captur that we all know is a small SUV in the B-segment, derived from the Clio and created to compete with models such as the Nissan Juke, the Peugeot 2008 or the Ford Ecosport. The result has been extraordinary from the very first moment, becoming the best-selling car in its segment across Europe, with a reception that has exceeded all expectations.

The small Renault, which is built exclusively for the world at the brand’s factory in Valladolid, has a very well-judged design and remarkable practicality. However, despite its robust, rugged styling, it is not designed for off-road driving, being offered exclusively with front-wheel drive and not very powerful engines.

That is why it is not suitable for markets such as Russia, for which this version has been created specifically. The Kaptur is manufactured at the Renault plant in Moscow, Russia. Aesthetically, the Kaptur is distinguished from its European sibling thanks to details such as more robust bumpers, front and rear headlights with a different interior design. In addition, the daytime running lights are C-shaped, in the style of the brand’s latest creations.

This model is tougher and more robust than the Captur intended for the European market

In the interior, the changes are also subtle, but noticeable. The layout of some controls and trim mouldings has changed, and a circular dial has been added to select the corresponding drive mode, the same one fitted to models such as the Dacia Duster or the Nissan Juke.

Although no details are known about the engine range, it is known that the Kaptur has a specific, higher and more robust suspension. The rear axle sees the most changes, as it replaces the Captur’s torsion beam with a multi-link system similar to that fitted to the Duster 4X4.

The Kaptur may fit diesel and petrol engines somewhat more powerful than those currently fitted to the Captur, whose power peak is 120 CV in the 1.2 TCe version. In addition, the possibility of incorporating automatic versions, in the style of the European Captur, is also being considered.
