Volkswagen Golf TSI BlueMotion: with 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine

The German manufacturer has just introduced the new Golf TSI BlueMotion, a version of the renowned Golf that combines the performance of a petrol turbo engine with the fuel consumption efficiency achieved through a series of specific adjustments. Volkswagen describes it as a petrol engine that is as fuel-efficient as a diesel. We recall that the BlueMotion series of Volkswagen has always been associated with the most efficient versions, and therefore with diesel and natural gas engines.

Now available in the petrol engine range, the chosen unit is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI engine that develops 115 CV and 200 Nm of torque, figures that allow it to reach a top speed of 204 km/h. In terms of efficiency, the three-cylinder unit achieves a homologated combined-cycle consumption of 4.3 litres per 100 km, figures better than those of the Golf TDI BlueMotion, which remains at 4.5 litres.

For its part, this fuel consumption efficiency also extends to emissions, where the Volkswagen Golf TSI BlueMotion achieves CO2 emissions of just 99 g/km. It achieves these figures both with the 6-speed manual gearbox and with the optional 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. To broaden the TSI BlueMotion range, Volkswagen will offer versions of the Golf Estate and Golf Sportsvan, with consumption of 4.3 l/100 km with manual and 4.5 l/100 km with DSG for the Estate, and 4.5 l/100 km with manual and 4.6 l/100 km with DSG for the Sportsvan.

As for the prices and equipment level of the Volkswagen Golf TSI BlueMotion, it will be offered in Trendline and Comfortline trims, and the first of these will serve as the entry point to the range, with a starting price in Germany of 20,450 euros. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, seven airbags, electronic differential lock, Start/Stop system with regenerative braking, body-coloured rear spoiler, sport suspension 15 mm lower and 15-inch alloy wheels.
