We already know the Smart #3, the new SUV from the brand that no longer makes small cars

Not long ago we saw the first sketches of the Smart #3, the second model that will arrive under the badge that until recently was dedicated to making small cars designed for the city. If the Smart #1 already showed substantial differences from those former models of the brand, the Smart #3 goes further. It is a segment B SUV, larger and more capable than the Smart #1, and it will be available in Europe at the end of 2023.

Today, Smart is part of the Chinese conglomerate Geely, and they want to move closer to more versatile electric vehicles and shake off the image of urban cars. That is why both the Smart #1 and the Smart #3 aim to deliver an extra touch of excitement behind the wheel.

It is not a bigger Smart #1

The Smart #3 presents a more aggressive look than the Smart #1, something perceived through similar headlights, but with a more dynamic appearance. In the centre, the brand logo is accompanied by a false air intake in the same colour as the bodywork. Below these elements we find a honeycomb-patterned grille, which, together with the side air intakes, does give it a resemblance to the Smart #1.

Something that catches the eye is the roof. Once it passes the B-pillar, it slopes backwards, giving a coupé-like silhouette that suits it very well. At the rear, it receives light clusters that the brand calls CyberSparks, which are joined together by a thin LED light bar.

In the centre of the tailgate you can see the Smart logo and on the left side, the model name. Above the rear window there is also a spoiler that adds a very attractive sporty touch. The wheels have five spokes and the lower side sections are covered by black mouldings.

The bodywork will be available in Photon Orange Metallic and Electric Blue Matte. Inside, the Vibrant Brown finish is available.

Interior of the Smart #3

Inside you will find one screen for the instrument display and another for the 12.8-inch infotainment system. This includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The audio system is signed by Beat and has 13 speakers. Besides very comfortable seats, passengers will travel in great comfort thanks to the space afforded by this model’s track width.

Engine and battery

The Smart #3 has an electric motor that delivers 203 kW of power, equivalent to 272 CV, although a two-motor version is also on sale, which together deliver 319 kW, that is, 428 CV. The battery powering these motors has a capacity of 66 kWh, offering a range of up to 450 kilometres.

However, these figures refer to the performance of the versions sold in China. The European version will be revealed later, although it is not expected to differ much from this one.
