Why does the McLaren Senna GTR have such a huge rear wing?
Why does the McLaren Senna GTR have such a huge rear wing? The British manufacturer tells us all the details.

As you probably already know, the McLaren Senna GTR is an absolute monster on the track, and this impressive supercar generates an aerodynamic downforce of, no more and no less, 1,000 kilograms.
We’re not exaggerating, but how is this unmatched figure achieved? As we can see in the video the supercar manufacturer has just published, one of the main reasons is the incorporation of this enormous wing.

In the video, we can see Esteban Palazzo, lead designer of McLaren, working with his team on this incredible McLaren Senna GTR, which is capable of delivering 1,000 kilograms of downforce.
Achieving that figure meant the manufacturer had to develop countless new aerodynamic parts, boosting its aggressiveness and lightness. Everything points to it having succeeded, because the video leaves no room for doubt.

McLaren Senna GTR, that is the impressive rear wing
As can be seen, the new McLaren Senna GTR features a series of aerodynamic modifications that help it grip the road perfectly. This is undoubtedly one of the major differences that set it apart from any other McLaren race car. In addition to the new downforce, the new British supercar features a modern front diffuser among other parts, but without a doubt the great distinction comes from the enormous wing.
The impressive wing is made entirely of carbon fibre, a material chosen not only for its lightness but also because it allows complex shapes to be created from it. On the McLaren Senna GTR, the wing not only has a set of very tall gooseneck uprights, but also outer uprights that are attached to the diffuser.

McLaren has not simply given this impressive wing a ‘pat on the back’ and fitted it to the model. The manufacturer takes great care that the new McLaren Senna GTR has one main goal: performance. The new supercar must be flawless through corners but must be even faster in a straight line, so the wing has to be able to ‘cut’ through the air without causing too much drag.
With these factors in mind, the most brutal version of the McLaren Senna features rear styling lines inspired by the LMP1 to increase stability, as well as a drag-reduction system called DRS, like the Senna standard or Formula 1 single-seaters themselves.

In the following video, we will be able to see first-hand how this impressive wing was manufactured by McLaren, and we will hear the impressions of the designers of this more aggressive version of the British supercar.
