Why isn't Honda bringing us back the Mugen NSX-RR Concept?

Honda is taking its time studying how it will bring back the famous NSX coupé. We previously said that the new sports car project on Honda’s plans would be based on the Accord, although some Japanese magazines have started to release additional details about the new NSX.

We already knew about the possibilities of it having a four-cylinder or V6 engine, and almost certainly with the hybrid system. According to what has now been published in Japan, the new NSX would have a generous size (even bigger than the Accord?), and the V6 engine (a 3.5, tentatively) would be the chosen powerplant, mounted in a mid-engine position. The new model would arrive in 2014. So far, that’s what it will be. But we haven’t stopped to think about how we would like it to be.

What a difference between what is said and what it was. The NSX has evolved, and it seems it would no longer be that spectacular sports car where Ayrton Senna himself gave a masterclass at Suzuka, and which ended with the beautiful Mugen NSX-RR Concept, the latest NSX that Honda presented at some show (Tokyo Auto Salon, 2008).

I know we’re no longer in the mood for this kind of sports car, and that brands like Honda have a commitment to other technologies and everything related to emissions and consumption. A civilian version of the HSV-010 GT would be welcome (dreaming costs nothing), but I think something like the NSX-RR would be just what we need. And then, let the Nissan GT-R and company hold on to whatever they can.
