Xiaomi Skynomad N70: the electric SUV that is taking off in China
Xiaomi has just unveiled the Skynomad N70, an electric SUV with a range extender, which allows it to cover more than 1,000 kilometres on a full tank.

Electric cars are managing to capture a significant share of the Chinese market. There are more and more models of this kind in the Asian country, and innovation is moving at a pace that worries other manufacturers. Xiaomi has just launched a new model, after surprising everyone with the YU7, and the electric SUV Skynomad N70 has been a success from the very first moment.
Two versions of this model have been launched, the N70 and the N90. They differ in that the second has three rows of seats, with more interior space. Both have one fundamental difference from the YU7: it is an electric model with a range extender, which means it has a combustion engine that charges the battery when necessary.

Range-extender propulsion system
The propulsion system of the entry-level model, the N70 Pro, consists of an electric motor delivering 282 CV, mounted on the rear axle. The battery has a capacity of 52 kWh, which gives it a range of 351 kilometres. The 1.5-litre combustion engine extends that range to 1,351 kilometres.

Above it sits the N70 Max, which has two electric motors. Together they deliver a total output of 416 CV. It is equipped with a nickel-manganese-cobalt battery with a capacity of 76 kWh, which increases the range to 505 kilometres. With a full tank, the combustion engine allows it to reach 1,461 kilometres.
A large, powerful SUV with a commanding presence
The dimensions of this electric SUV make for a large, imposing vehicle. It measures 4,960 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width and 1,785 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,950 mm, which allows very generous interior space.
The five-seat version offers front seats that swivel 180 degrees. In addition, these seats and the rear ones are heated and ventilated as standard. The head-up display measures 20 inches and the infotainment system screen is 16.1 inches. The instrument cluster screen measures 8.8 inches. It also features a 14-speaker sound system. The Max version has 25 speakers, creating a richer sound experience.
This model is generating considerable anticipation, and it is believed that around 100,000 units have been reserved during the first week. This is no surprise, as both the styling and the equipment of this model are quite striking, and its price starts at around 31,275 euros at current exchange rates, considerably less than the Tesla Model Y, for example.
