2025 was a good year for NIO, with sales increasing by almost 50 percent

2025 marked a very positive turning point for NIO, with record deliveries, revenue and margins, and the long-awaited first quarterly profit, although consolidating profitability and global expansion will remain a priority in the current year.

According to the financial results recently published by the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer NIO, the company increased total sales across its three brands by 46.9 percent over the past year, thereby giving a notable boost to its revenue, which grew 33.1 percent to around 87.5 billion yuan. That is, about 10.9 billion euros at the current exchange rate.

Although NIO recorded an annual net loss of 14.9 billion yuan – close to 1.85 billion euros – this figure represents a significant improvement of 33.3 percent over the previous year. Furthermore, if these results are adjusted for non-recurring expenses such as share-based compensation and organisational optimisation, the net loss narrowed even further by 39.4 percent, reaching 12.4 billion yuan.

The last quarter of 2025 deserves particular attention, as NIO posted its first-ever quarterly operating and net profit. Deliveries reached 124,807 vehicles, 71.7 percent more than in the same period of 2024 and 43.3 percent above the figure recorded in the third quarter of the year. Those 124,807 vehicles delivered were distributed across the manufacturer’s three brands as follows: 67,433 units under the main NIO brand, 38,290 units under the family-oriented Onvo brand, and 19,084 units under the urban Premium Firefly brand.

Good news for NIO

In financial terms, total revenue for the quarter rose 75.9 percent year on year to 34.65 billion yuan, with a positive operating margin of 807.3 million yuan – about 100 million euros. Quarterly net profit was 282.7 million yuan – around 35 million euros – in contrast with the heavy losses of previous periods.

The company attributes these advances to higher sales volume, a better product mix, cost-reduction measures and improved efficiency. The company has also wished to highlight that the profit margin on vehicle sales reached 18.1 percent, and that on other sales 11.9 percent, thanks in part to its optimisation initiatives.

Looking ahead to 2026, NIO plans to maintain its momentum by investing in its own technologies, launching new models, strengthening its battery swap and charging network, and expanding its commercial and service capabilities.
