Macan Porsche Electric Cars SUV
All signs point to the new electric Porsche Macan being a resounding sales success
Oliver Blume, head of Porsche, says the company is overwhelmed by the number of reservations it has already registered for the brand’s new compact electric SUV
The future of the Stuttgart firm looks genuinely promising ever since the company decided to bet on electric mobility with the Taycan. Now that the turn has come to also adopt a fully electric powertrain for the brand’s most popular model, history could repeat itself, achieving an even greater success in this case.
The Macan and the Taycan will not, however, be the only electric vehicles we will find in the coming years in the Porsche lineup. The 718 and the Cayenne will presumably follow the same path, and the upcoming launch of a new seven-seat SUV with electric propulsion is also expected.

But for now, let’s focus on the company’s most immediate future, which involves the start of sales of the new Macan. A compact electric SUV that is set to become a true sales success. Something that, to be honest, we did not need the Stuttgart firm to suggest, because we were already sensing it after seeing its official presentation a few weeks ago.
Optimism reigns at the headquarters of Porsche
The Porsche Annual Press Conference held this Tuesday in the German city of Leipzig has given us insight into the company’s mood ahead of the imminent market launch of its second electric model. In this regard, Oliver Blume, head of the brand, stated that at Porsche management they are overwhelmed by the warm reception their new compact electric SUV has received from the public.
Blume assured that since they began accepting reservations a few weeks ago they have already received more than 10 thousand. This figure does not even include the Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese markets. The head of Porsche also recalled that all these customers who have already shown their interest in acquiring a unit of the new electric Macan have done so practically with their eyes closed, since they have not been able to touch it or sit behind the wheel; they have only watched the presentation event. Blume thus believes that the Macan will follow in the footsteps of the Taycan and likewise become a sales success, which in this case, given the type of vehicle it is, should be even greater.

The previous generation of the combustion-engined Macan is the brand’s second best-selling model worldwide, behind only its bigger sibling, the Cayenne. Porsche will continue selling this model in North America for some time alongside the fully electric second-generation Macan, unlike in Europe, where the company will withdraw it from sale to market exclusively the new electric Macan. The reason for this decision is none other than the stricter cybersecurity regulations in force in Europe, as we already explained in a recent article.

The Porsche Annual Press Conference held in Leipzig also served the company to confirm its intention that by 2030 more than 80 percent of the brand’s vehicles sold will be electric. Although they also wanted to point out that this will depend on how the market evolves. In any case, Blume has been extremely optimistic about the future of the electric vehicle, going so far as to state that it is only a matter of time before sales of this type of vehicle skyrocket, since in his opinion in the near future they will be technically far superior to equivalent combustion-engine versions.
