We are eager to get past the 2020 threshold, because it seems that is when we will see the emergence of the electric motor. Brands are launching their proposals with electrified powertrains, whether in hybrid or fully electric versions. The Los Angeles Show may be a good showcase for these novelties, and BMW has wanted to take the opportunity to present the BMW Vision iNext Concept, the electric SUV we heard about earlier.

This fully electric SUV has been one of the flagship projects of the German brand, and those who made it to the Los Angeles Show were able to discover what this preview of off-road-oriented electric mobility offers. The first thing that catches the eye is that this concept model has a similar footprint to the BMW X5, but it will offer more interior space thanks to its electric architecture.

This electric SUV uses motors on both axles, powered by a battery located in the floor of the cabin. This combination will allow the BMW Vision iNext to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just four seconds. The range of this concept model, according to BMW, is 611 kilometres.

What we notice in this first image is a large front grille, which does not serve the function one might expect, but is instead where the various sensors that make up the autonomous-driving system are located. Inside, the lightness of the design is evident, with a very airy dashboard, since everything is controlled through the central screen.

The front seats are separated by a tray to comfortably rest the arm, while the rear seats can accommodate two people. The car has two driving modes, Boost and Ease. In the first, the driver is in charge of driving the car, while in Ease mode the steering wheel retracts and autonomous driving mode is activated. Production of the BMW Vision iNext will begin at the Dingolfing plant in 2021, or at least that is what the brand expects.
