BYD is working to bring

The revolutionary ultra-fast charging technology from BYD promises to transform the electric mobility landscape in Europe, bringing charging times ever closer to those of refuelling a combustion-engine vehicle.

BYD plans to revolutionise fast charging in Europe with its Flash Charging technology, capable of reaching power levels of up to 1,000 kW, and it also intends to do so using the CCS standard. According to recent reports, the company plans to deploy this system across the European continent using a single connector, unlike in China, where two cables are connected to the vehicle simultaneously to achieve this power.

Last March, BYD captured the attention of the media and the public when it unveiled its thousand-volt platform for premium electric vehicles, known as Super e-platform. This revolutionary technology, which includes a redesigned Blade battery and technical optimisations, allows models such as the Han L EV and the Tang L EV to support charging powers that even exceed 1,000 kW.

In China, these vehicles require two charging ports located one on each side of the vehicle, which connect to two charging points instead of the usual single one. However, at the IAA Mobility 2025, held last week in the German city of Munich, a representative of BYD confirmed that in Europe a single CCS cable will be enough to achieve the same performance, thus maintaining compatibility with the European standard.

Charging at one megawatt will also be possible in Europe

During the BYD event at IAA Mobility 2025, the Chinese manufacturer announced that Flash Charging technology will arrive on the continent and that the company’s customers will be able to make the most of it thanks to the installation of between 200 and 300 compatible ultra-fast charging stations by the second quarter of 2026. This infrastructure will be aimed mainly at models from the premium brand Denza, such as the Z9 GT and the D9 MPV.

This revolutionary technology from BYD is not, however, an isolated case. Other manufacturers are developing CCS charging solutions that exceed the 400 kW of today’s fast chargers. For example, companies such as Alpitronic have introduced systems like the HYC1000, which delivers up to 600 kW per CCS connector, while Phoenix Contact has developed an improved connector capable of handling up to 1,000 kW, using innovative cooling systems to do so.

Although it is not clear whether BYD has designed its own CCS connector or is collaborating with a supplier, what is evident is that the Chinese manufacturer intends to lead the electric vehicle market in Europe in this area.
