BYD updates the Atto 3 in China with ultra-fast Flash Charging integration
With this renewal of one of its most popular models, BYD aims to strengthen the position of this compact SUV within its segment in a market as competitive as China’s.
BYD has just unveiled the updated version of the Yuan Plus in its local market, the model that is known in Europe and other markets as the Atto 3. This third generation of this compact SUV arrives with significant technical improvements and goes on sale with a starting price of 119,900 yuan in this Asian country, roughly 15,200 euros at current exchange rates.
The most notable improvement of the new Yuan Plus is the adoption of the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, an evolution of the previous architecture that integrates components more effectively, offers a more powerful propulsion system and significantly enhances charging capabilities.

BYD has replaced the previous 8-in-1 propulsion system with a new 12-in-1 unit that incorporates four additional functions, achieving greater efficiency and performance. In addition, the vehicle comes standard with the second generation of its Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. This new battery pack now allows the Yuan Plus to take advantage of the growing network of charging points with Flash Charging in the Chinese market, making it possible to increase the state of charge from 10 to 70 percent in just five minutes. That is practically the same time needed to refuel a combustion-engine vehicle at a petrol station, or even less.
Technical specifications to consider
The new Yuan Plus measures 4.67 metres long, 1.90 metres wide and 1.68 metres high, with a wheelbase of 2.77 metres. It is available with rear-wheel drive and two power levels: 200 kW or 240 kW, combined with battery packs of 57.5 kWh or 68.5 kWh. Under the Chinese CLTC cycle, it offers ranges of between 540 and 630 kilometres.
The range consists of four versions, with prices ranging from 119,900 to 149,900 yuan, roughly between 15,200 and 19,000 euros at current exchange rates. Although the price of the base version rises slightly compared with the previous model, BYD maintains a competitive offer in a market as demanding as China’s.
Beyond supporting Flash Charging with this update, other highlights of the new Yuan Plus are the DiSus-C intelligent suspension system and, as an option on almost all versions, the advanced driver assistance system God’s Eye B with LiDAR for an additional 12,000 yuan, roughly 1,500 euros at current exchange rates.

On the inside, this renewed compact SUV features a larger central screen with the latest DiLink system, a new two-spoke steering wheel, a head-up display and a gear selector located on the steering column. On the outside, it retains the Dragon Face design philosophy, with a flatter front end, more streamlined headlights, semi-concealed door handles and a continuous rear light bar. It is offered in nine colours, including two-tone options.
