CUPRA UrbanRebel EV Concept: this is the new concept that is getting closer to production

The CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept is the high-performance brand’s proposal from the Volkswagen Group that is moving closer to production, far from the first prototype.

Some time ago we had the chance to see the CUPRA UrbanRebel EV on the track, proving it could do everything they had announced it would. The launch date of this battery electric B-segment model is 2025, so there is still a long road ahead before it enters the production line. CUPRA is using that time to fine-tune the design of the prototype and get it ready for the start of its manufacturing.

If last year we saw a car with a design very close to what is required on the track, this new prototype comes much closer to what we will see on the roads. The brand says that this car they have presented is 95% ready for production. An image and design that come very close to the final model and that has lost the spoilers.

Another feature of this new variant is that it has gained the two rear doors. This gives the car a different look and a more everyday, more road-ready feel. At its foundation is the MEB platform, the same one used by the Born and the Volkswagen ID.3, with which it will share many features.

The design has been toned down a little and no longer looks so aggressive. The CUPRA UrbanRebel will be an urban car and it has been designed to perform successfully in that setting. The wheels have been reduced in size, which helps keep their visual impact in check. These and other elements have been made more realistic and functional. It is interesting to note the use of plant fibres, light and easy to work with to shape some of those aesthetic and aerodynamic elements.

As for the engine and batteries, the CUPRA UrbanRebel has a motor that will deliver a power output of 166 kW, equivalent to 226 CV. All this power is sent to the front wheels and it will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Its batteries will allow a range of 440 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. A good figure, considering its urban spirit.

It will be manufactured at the Martorell plant and will be ready for 2025, so we will not have long to wait to see the final changes that are to be implemented on the prototype.
