About four months ago, the North American firm Drako gave us a first glimpse of what would be its most powerful model to date, a fully electric sports SUV that promised jaw-dropping performance figures and a very premium approach.

Now, coinciding with the Los Angeles Auto Show 2022, the time has come for the official presentation of this Drako Dragon, the brand’s spearhead for carving out a place in the competitive segment of electric super SUVs.

Starting with its design, the new Dragon sports sporty, highly aerodynamic lines in an SUV body style, on a monocoque carbon fibre chassis that brings its final weight to no less than 2.2 tonnes.

Its design, piece by piece

From the front view, its aggressive LED light units, sporty bumper and the enormous air intake connecting the front end with the middle section of the bonnet give the SUV a truly aggressive look that makes it clear this is a rather special car.

The Dragon’s side profile is slightly reminiscent of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, with an athletic roofline that slopes gently towards the rear, fairly muscular wheel arches and 23-inch alloy wheels that, although they may seem excessively large on paper, look quite proportionate to the whole. On top of that, Drako’s engineers have fitted large gullwing doors, giving access to both the front and rear seats.

Inside, Drako has placed particular emphasis on offering a cabin with high-quality materials and comfort, with beige leather seats, door panels fully covered in soft-touch material, a huge 17.1-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, and a fully digital instrument cluster supported by a multifunction steering wheel with touch controls. There are also more screens at both ends of the dashboard acting as mirrors, and on the rear headrests for passengers in the back seats.

Performance without limits

As for the mechanical side, the Drako Dragon is powered by four motors, one per axle, which together produce an incredible total output of 2,028 CV and which, according to the brand, allow it to go from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 96 km/h) in just 1.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 322 km/h.

We don’t know much about the battery powering these four motors, although according to the brand it will offer a range of 676 kilometres and charging technology capable of up to 500 kW, recovering up to 80% of its capacity in around 10 minutes.

All that said, it’s time to talk about pricing and arrival on the roads: according to the brand, this SUV starts at $290,000, and its first units won’t arrive until around 2026.
