For Koenigsegg, the top speed record is not a priority
Christian von Koenigsegg himself has stated it: the top speed record is not a priority for us. This statement is a response to a question a fan of the brand asked through a forum in which the founder of Koenigsegg would answer all the doubts raised.

Christian von Koenigsegg has revealed that verifying the top speed of its vehicles or attempting to set a new world record is currently not a priority for the brand. This statement comes now, as the Swiss manufacturer is trying to set new records in the different categories of the automotive world. The Koenigsegg One:1 has already beaten the mark set by the Agera R for the zero to 300 km/h sprint and regained the lap records at Suzuka and the Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.
But this record may be the most interesting of all, especially considering that Bugatti set it with the Veyron a few years ago and since then no one has been able to dethrone it. The top speed mark is a bonus of prestige for any manufacturer, and Koenigsegg had already publicly shown its interest in attempting it. However, after hearing the answer from its founder, it seems we will have to wait a while.

“When are you going to test the real top speed of your cars?” To which von Koenigsegg replied: “We would like to do a test of this kind, but I have to state that it is not a high priority for us. It is always nice to be able to say that you have the fastest production car in the world, and we believe the One:1 could beat the current record, but for us it is a matter of priorities.”
The founder of the Swiss company then went on to detail three key factors that have deterred them from attempting to set a new top speed record for a street car. To begin with, von Koenigsegg is not convinced of the importance of this type of record, both for the company itself and for its customers. On the other hand, the manufacturer has not found an airfield large enough to extract all the performance from its powerful sports cars. And finally, the fact that Koenigsegg remains a small company, which considers that its resources can be better invested in ensuring, for example, that its cars are as much fun to drive as possible.
After all, customers, especially the owners of the Koenigsegg One:1, will never be able to take their cars to the limit, whereas they will be able to fully explore their acceleration and handling capabilities on a race track. As a reminder, Koenigsegg’s latest creation features a twin-turbo V8 engine delivering 1,341 CV and 1,371 Nm of torque. These figures, combined with a total weight of 1,341 kilograms, give the One:1 a perfect power-to-weight ratio of 1 CV/1 kg.
