Hyundai Veloster N: 275 CV and pure muscle
With 275 CV and a very sporty design, the new Hyundai Veloster N becomes the second high-performance model from the Korean brand.
The new Hyundai Veloster does not come alone. The new generation unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show 2018 also features, like the compact Hyundai i30, a “N” version. The Hyundai Veloster N is therefore the second model from the Korean brand bearing the designation that indicates a high-performance car. In other words: tuned to be enjoyed behind the wheel.
Engine boosted to 275 CV
To achieve this, the first requirement is a powerful engine, and the Hyundai Veloster N has one. No less than 275 CV at 6,000 rpm is delivered by the 4-cylinder 2.0 Turbo engine. The same as the “Performance” version of the Hyundai i30 N, which is also offered in a less extreme variant, with 250 CV and less equipment.

Its more than 350 Nm of maximum torque, available across a wide rev range –from 1,450 to 4,700 rpm– guarantees crushing acceleration. Even more so with the “overboost” function, which temporarily raises that maximum torque to almost 380 Nm when accelerating hard. As with the i30 N, with which it shares its platform, the chassis has a specific tuning setup.

Among the exclusive settings of the Veloster N is the electric power steering assistance. It also has much firmer suspension than the rest of the Veloster range. The limited-slip self-locking differential, the 19-inch alloy wheels, a dynamic exhaust system with noise regulation, or the six-speed manual gearbox with Rev Matching function to assist with downshifts round out a picture that calls for winding roads ahead.

Of course, the N Grin Control dynamic driving system is also included, with five modes to choose from. And for those seeking genuine sensations, the stability control can be switched off completely. Grip on the asphalt is provided by Michelin Pilot SuperSport tyres in size 225/40 when the standard 18-inch wheels are fitted, or Pirelli P-Zero tyres in 235/35 for the optional 19-inch wheels.
A coupé dressed as a GTI
Compared with the rest of the Hyundai Veloster range, the Veloster N is distinguished externally by a treatment similar to that of the i30 N. The rear diffuser with high-flow double exhaust outlet is complemented by a modified grille and air intakes. The bodywork is lower, it features the “electric” blue colour (also available in red, black or white) inspired by Hyundai Motorsport, with contrasting red accents, and the rear spoiler is painted black, as are the mirror housings. The brake calipers also stand out, which can be painted orange.

Inside, the transformation is not as radical, and the Veloster N is barely identifiable beyond some finishing details and the badges that identify this sportier version.
