There is no denying that Jaguar is enjoying a sweet moment. After a 2015 packed with launches and very notable sales figures, 2016 has started out rather busy.

We have barely been underway for 20 days, and the one that will be among the stars of the Geneva Motor Show, the most powerful version of the F-Type, the SVR.

The F-Type has been a real revelation for Jaguar, thanks to a success that perhaps even they did not anticipate at any point. The small two-seat roadster, with its corresponding two-seat coupé version, has been a hit from the very start, thanks to a striking design and very powerful engines.

Now, the people at Jaguar have wanted to give the F-Type range a proper flagship model, and to do so they turned to the Special Operations Vehicles department of the Land Rover group, resulting in what we see on screen, the model known as the “F-Type SVR”.

What makes the SVR special compared with its siblings in the range? To start with, it has been given a more aggressive and sporty body, which sets it apart in some way from what we have known as the F-Type until now. To achieve this, it has been fitted with a front bumper with larger air intakes, a bonnet with air vents, and specific 20-inch alloy wheels.

The forged 20-inch alloy wheels are specific to the SVR

There are also other, more “beastly” additions, such as the four titanium exhaust outlets integrated into a carbon-fibre diffuser, or a spoiler far more prominent than the retractable ones on the “standard” versions. More colours are also added for the bodywork, some of them specific to this version.

Inside, the changes are much more limited, restricted to new brushed aluminium trim and seats upholstered in leather with more enveloping shapes. Luxury remains present with a large sound system, electric adjustment for everything, or a complete ambient lighting pack.

SVR 5

Mechanically, the changes are obvious. This is the most powerful version, which takes the already known 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, tuning its output slightly to raise it to 575 CV. Torque also rises to 700 Nm. The automatic gearbox remains the same 8-speed torque-converter unit, although its operating logic has been specifically revised for this version.

Adaptive suspension, an electronic rear differential and carbon-ceramic brakes are all included. Performance is brilliant, with a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 322 km/h for the coupé and 312 km/h for the convertible.
