Avenger Jeep Electric Cars Salón de París SUV
Jeep Avenger 4x4 Concept: the logical evolution of the new all-electric Avenger

Jeep has unveiled the new Jeep Avenger at the Paris Motor Show, a compact SUV that will offer a 100% electric version, making it Jeep’s first vehicle with a purely battery-electric powertrain. Measuring 4.1 metres in length, it is expected to reach the market in early 2023, and will sit above the Renegade in Jeep’s current range.
The electric version (in Spain it will also be sold with a 1.2 petrol engine) produces 156 CV, and its 54 kWh battery allows a claimed WLTP range of 400 km. It uses the same CMP platform from the Stellantis group that underpins other electric models such as the Peugeot e-208, which has just received an update to the powertrain system, debuted on the Peugeot e-308. The motor is located under the front bonnet, and drive goes to the front wheels.
In the future, also with two motors and 4×4 traction
But as a true Jeep, and although the Avenger features hill descent control and the Selec-Terrain traction control system, which offers the choice of up to six driving modes depending on the terrain (sand, mud, snow, sport, eco and normal), the brand wants to offer its customers the option of a 4×4 version in the future. That is why, alongside the Avenger, Jeep surprisingly presented the Avenger 4×4 Concept in Paris, a preview of what the future all-wheel-drive Avenger will be.

The most likely scenario is that this future version will have a second motor on the rear axle, although Jeep has not revealed any technical details. What they have done is give the Avenger 4×4 Concept a very adventurous look, with specific styling that has proved a big hit. In fact, Jeep is clear about it: “eye-catching, fun and distinctive, the 4×4 Concept will join the Jeep range of 4xe models coming in the future,” the brand says. Let us recall that the current range includes the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Renegade 4xe, which are plug-in hybrids; the Avenger 4×4 Concept would introduce Jeep into the world of fully electrified all-wheel-drive SUVs… and it would only be the beginning. To achieve this, it would most likely feature a second electric motor on the rear axle.

For now, as a statement of intent, the Avenger 4×4 Concept sports a body with greater ground clearance, reaching 200 mm, along with improved approach and departure angles of 21 and 34 degrees respectively. Also noteworthy are the additional front protection, the roof rack system, wider tracks, larger tyres specific to off-road use and a towing hitch.
