Kenworth SuperTruck 2, the hybrid truck that improves aerodynamics and reduces consumption
This truck is the intermediate step between electric trucks and combustion ones, as it uses a hybrid engine that saves fuel and emissions

Electric trucks are a major innovation that many brands are working on. The goal is to reduce consumption and polluting emissions of heavy-duty transport vehicles. But the major problems facing the development of these large electric vehicles lead some brands to opt for intermediate paths.
The Kenworth SuperTruck 2 is a semi-trailer that uses a combustion engine coupled with a 48-volt light hybrid system. This allows the truck to run on a conventional engine, but to use the hybrid system to reduce consumption and provide electrical power for components that would normally run off the engine.

The styling of this semi-trailer offers a design that improves aerodynamics and helps reduce air resistance. The wheels are fully enclosed, which improves this aspect. The mirrors are also digital, so in theory they also offer greater visibility.

It is equipped with variable suspension, so it can adapt to the needs of each moment. Inside, a 15-inch screen brings together all the information the driver needs, seated in a central position. Functionality has been the priority, and it features a wide range of menus and functions to make it easier to use.
The driver can sleep in a fold-down bed, accompanied by a folding table and rear air vents.

Engine and hybrid system
The engine powering this model delivers 440 CV and is combined with a 48-volt hybrid system. This uses lithium-ion batteries to store the energy produced. This allows electric fans, electric steering, as well as electric coolant pumps and HVAC to be used. All of this is usually driven by the engine, and considerable fuel is saved thanks to the electricity generated by this system.
The hybrid system also allows the driver to enjoy several comforts during the night, without needing the engine running. A measure that can save fuel and also polluting emissions, since the engine will not need to run to power the climate control or interior lights.
This truck weighs, including the trailer, 11,839 kg, which is almost 7,200 kg less than a similar truck with an identical configuration. To reduce mass, ten conceptual tyres have been used, which cut weight by 161 kg and feature very low rolling resistance.
A more efficient engine allows weight to be reduced, since this one uses a 303-litre tank, smaller than is usual, which helps reduce weight without affecting range. The truck runs on diesel, but it can be modified to include electric motor traction, powered by both batteries and the energy produced by a fuel cell.
