Koenigsegg Gemera: 0-100 km/h in 1.9 seconds

The Koenigsegg Gemera will be the first model from the Swedish firm to offer four seats. Its four motors deliver more than 1,700 CV of power.

Christian von Koenigsegg always has something up his sleeve for us. Despite the cancellation of the Geneva Motor Show due to the Coronavirus, brands keep showing us new models through official press releases and images. With the Swedish firm, we are used to seeing two-seat supercars with performance that makes us equally angry and amazed. Now, Koenigsegg has ventured into a new segment: GTs. With its four seats, the Gemera enters a new adventure in the world of hypercars.

The new Koenigsegg has four motors in total

The mechanical side is the one that stands out most in articles about Koenigsegg. It makes sense. Almost no one can match the superhuman conditions to which the Swedes subject their cars. After producing models with 1,500 and 1,600 CV, the new Gemera will offer more than 1,700 CV…

The culprits are three electric motors and a fourth combustion engine. The electric motors send 500 CV to each rear wheel. With the third motor attached to the crankshaft, the combined power of these three electric motors is 1,115 CV. Now add the power of the 2.0-litre twin-turbo three-cylinder inline engine producing 608 CV and 600 Nm of torque. Accustomed to the three-cylinder engines of compact cars, this is hard to believe.

The result seems fake

We don’t like to be skeptical, but sometimes it’s hard to hold on to reality. The Koenigsegg Gemera delivers a combined power of 1,724 CV and… 3,500 Nm! These figures are so astonishing that they seem impossible to believe. And, what everyone has been waiting for, its 0-100 km/h. According to Koenigsegg, the Gemera is capable of doing it in just 1.9 seconds.

The Swedish firm has also provided performance figures. The car is capable of driving up to 50 km in EV mode at speeds of up to 300 km/h. To give you an idea, the PHEVs we see on the streets usually manage around 50 km in electric mode at top speeds of around 120 km/h. This allows it to earn the DGT 0 label as a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Combining the 75-litre fuel tank capacity with the batteries, the promised range of this hypercar is 1,000 km. For now, the Swedish company’s idea is to produce 300 units of the Gemera. It is a limited edition whose price we don’t yet know, but we can get an idea based on previous models.
