Lamborghini Lanzador Electric Cars
Lamborghini cancels the long-awaited debut of its first all-electric supercar, the Lanzador.
Lamborghini aligns itself with a trend observed among other luxury supercar manufacturers, who are prioritising hybrid solutions in order to preserve the emotional character of their vehicles while also complying with current emissions regulations.
Lamborghini has definitively abandoned its original plan to bring its first all-electric supercar to market. This news is official, as the chief executive of the Italian firm, Stephan Winkelmann, himself confirmed it in an interview with a British publication.
So we can say that the Lanzador project, whose spectacular all-electric prototype was unveiled in 2023 with the aim of having the production version reach the market in 2028, is now officially history and will not come to fruition.

That prototype we saw almost three years ago will not, however, die entirely. The plan currently being pursued by the Italian brand’s management is to sell a new supercar based on that prototype, which will not be fully electric but a plug-in hybrid. In this way, by 2030, the entire Lamborghini range will consist of models with plug-in hybrid propulsion systems, with no other alternative option.
Lamborghini is finally taking the middle road, betting on plug-in hybrids
.As Winkelmann himself explained, the company’s current strategy is to keep combustion-engined vehicles around for as long as possible, with a certain level of electrification, in order to comply with current emissions regulations. He also assured us in the interview in question that this change of direction at Lamborghini is fundamentally due to the evolution the market has undergone since that first Lanzador prototype was unveiled in 2023, while also taking very much into account the preferences of its current customers.
Winkelmann believes that the acceptance curve for battery-electric vehicles in the supercar segment has stalled and is even approaching zero. Buyers of this type of vehicle, he explained, place особенно high value on the emotional experience provided by a Lamborghini, giving particular importance to the characteristic roar of its engine, the vibrations and the unique sensation offered by V8 and V12 powertrains.

Over more than a year, from late 2024 through the whole of 2025, the Italian manufacturer carried out an exhaustive market analysis that included ongoing conversations with customers, dealers and global data. The company’s management ultimately concluded that caution was warranted. Investing large sums in developing a fully electric vehicle when neither the market nor the customer base appear ready for such a disruptive change would, in all likelihood, be financial irresponsibility towards the company’s shareholders and employees. This is why the project has finally been shelved.

When asked directly at the end of the interview whether we would ever see a fully electric Lamborghini, Winkelmann’s answer was clear: “Never say never, but now is not the time.”
