McLaren MP4-12C vs Ferrari 458 Italia (and the rest of rivals)

At the Rockingham circuit (England), CAR Magazine pitted the new McLaren MP4-12C against a select group of supercars, including its main rival, the Ferrari 458 Italia. The other contenders are the Audi R8 V10, Lamborghini Gallardo Performante, Porsche 911 GT2 RS and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

All of them were driven on the same day, under identical weather conditions and always by former Stig Ben Collins. The results, focused on lap time around the circuit, are surprising.

This was the final ranking based on the recorded lap times (mm:ss):

1. Ferrari 458 Italia – 01:28.30
2. Porsche 911 GT2 RS – 01:28.78
3. Lamborghini LP570 Performante – 01:29.92
4. McLaren MP4-12C – 01:30.10
5. Audi R8 V10 – 01:31.06
6. Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG – 01:33.10

Indeed, the McLaren finishes fourth, behind the Ferrari (by almost 2 seconds), Porsche and Lamborghini. This greatly undermines the credibility of those rumours that placed the McLaren as the new king of the Nürburgring (it was said to be capable of completing it in 7 minutes).

    ya, y yo me lo creo… McLaren lleva año y medio diciendo que su coche puede meter sobre veinte segundos “mínimo” al 458 en el Ring, y ahora vienen estos a decirme que es el Ferrari el que le quita dos!!! en un circuito normal… Y no solo eso! Si no que hasta le gana un Gallardo!!! Y todo esto depués de que haya quien ha dicho que es mas estable en mojado que un Lammbo en seco… Me parece a mi que al ex-stig le ha pesado poco el pie o bien se ha dejado la suspensión en modo “paseo”… Anda ya
