New Porsche 911 GTS: probably the best

Porsche completes the 911 range with the new and long-awaited GTS versions, which are always synonymous with maximum sportiness and performance, and extreme driving sensations behind the wheel.

It has taken a year and a half since the presentation of the 992 generation of the Porsche 911, but the new GTS versions have finally arrived. These initials identify the variants specially tuned to convey even more sporty sensations, and they debuted with the first 911 GTS more than a decade ago.

The new GTS range includes Coupé and Cabrio versions, with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, as well as the Targa variant. In every case, buyers can choose a seven-speed manual gearbox or the 8-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox at no extra cost. These are the prices for the Spanish market:

  • 911 Carrera GTS Coupé: 162,595 euros
  • 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet: 178,885 euros
  • 911 Carrera 4 GTS Coupé: 171,555 euros
  • 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet: 187,845 euros
  • 911 Targa 4 GTS: 187,845 euros

These GTS versions bring cosmetic changes, chassis modifications and a more powerful engine. Let’s look at it in more detail.

Engine and chassis of the 911 GTS

The three-litre six-cylinder flat engine with turbocharging produces 480 CV and a maximum torque of 570 Nm. It allows the 911 Carrera 4 GTS Coupé with PDK gearbox to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds faster than its predecessor.

But beyond the figures, the 911 GTS promises sensations. The suspension, derived from that of the 911 Turbo and with specific settings for the GTS, comes as standard with the Porsche Active Suspension Management system, featuring adaptive dampers. Both the coupé and the Cabriolet combine it with the sport chassis, which lowers the bodywork by 10 mm. Four-wheel steering is part of the standard equipment.

The brakes and wheels also come from the 911 Turbo. The latter are 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear axle, and feature centre-lock nuts. For the first time, Porsche offers in the GTS the Lightweight Design package, which reduces weight by 25 kg by eliminating the rear seats and fitting front seats made of CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced polymer), lighter side windows and rear window glass, and a lighter battery.

Specific exterior and interior design details

Externally, the 911 GTS versions are characterised by black detailing, which on the Targa includes the roll hoop. Among these darkened elements, the wheels, the GTS badges, the spoiler lip and the radiator cover grille stand out. The Exterior pack provides a high-gloss finish for these elements, while the Sport Design pack, which is standard, adds exclusive mouldings and side sills. The LED headlights with Porsche’s dynamic light system are also standard, while the rear lights feature a distinctive design for these versions.

For the cabin, the GT Sport steering wheel, the Sport Chrono package and the Porsche Track Precision app are standard, as well as Sport Seat Plus seats. In versions with manual gearbox the gear lever is shorter. Many of the upholstery sections use a new microfibre material called Race-Tex, with contrast stitching. The inserts on the dashboard and doors are matt carbon if the GTS interior package is chosen.

The new 911 GTS also gets the latest generation of the brand’s infotainment system, Porsche Communication Management, with more touch areas, an improved voice assistant and connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
