Peugeot 3008: gets a new body and electric version, with 700 km of range
Peugeot has announced that by 2025 it will offer the broadest range of electric cars of any mainstream brand in Europe and now transforms the silhouette of its 3008 with a new concept: a fastback SUV that will have a fully electric version. It debuts the Stellantis STLA Medium platform with dimensions of 4.54 m in length, 1.89 m in width and a height of 1.64 metres, that is, it grows by 93 mm in length, 49 in width and 16 in height, although its shapes evolve towards a coupé with a notable drag coefficient of Cx=0.28. For its part, boot capacity does not change compared with the previous edition, with 520 litres of capacity, regardless of the type of powertrain or battery capacity.
Over 1,320,000 units of the 3008 have been sold in 130 countries since 2016 across its two previous generations, and now, with the new edition, very close to the concept unveiled by Renault with the Scénic E-Tech, it announces better performance, efficiency and new features. The range, which will be on sale from February 2024, will be based on two trim levels, Allure and GT, with 3 option packs to simplify choice, and three fully electric powertrains, of 210 CV, 230 CV Long Range and 320 CV Dual Motor (all-wheel drive). Hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains will also go on sale in some markets and, for some markets, combustion versions. Regarding the 5008, the brand has not given details of its successor, although it intends to launch a large electric SUV.

New style
The design of the new 3008 introduces a new treatment for the front end, maintaining the characteristic three-claw light signature, with new, more streamlined light clusters, and a new front grille without borders that integrates into the body as a whole. The headlights are LED as standard across the entire range and, in the case of the GT variant, use Pixel LED technology with adaptive light beam.
Meticulous details have been considered in its design, such as the absence of seals on the side windows with the doors, or the elimination of decorative inserts and chrome parts, which have been replaced by painted elements. The wheels are also new, now 19 or 20 inches, much more aerodynamic. The new range is offered in six colours, two of them new with gloss black roof, and on the electric GT versions, the lower sections of the bumpers, the wheel arches and the door sill protectors are finished in gloss black.

Also new is the 21-inch floating panoramic screen Panoramic i-Cockpit high-resolution (standard on the GT), which combines the Head-up Display with the central touchscreen. On the Allure version, the i-Cockpit comes as standard with two 10-inch digital screens integrated into a single panel in the panoramic display, which offers the same floating effect as the 21-inch panel. The central part of the dashboard includes i-Toggles, customisable touch buttons that can be programmed to provide quick access to 10 of the user’s favourite functions, such as calling a favourite contact, starting navigation to a frequent destination, tuning the radio to a specific station, setting the ideal air conditioning temperature, etc.
The centre console has storage space and improves its capacity with the relocation of the automatic gearbox selector to the dashboard itself, to the right of the steering wheel, next to the start-stop button. It offers storage compartments with a total volume of around 34 litres: wireless smartphone charging, a cooled storage space under the central armrest, glovebox, etc. The steering wheel has also been modified, with touch controls, paddles to activate the regenerative braking system and is heated in the GT versions.

It debuts front seats – leather-effect and fabric in Allure and leather-look and Alcantara in GT – with AGR certification which, in the GT version, are ventilated and with massage function, and also heated at the rear. For the first time in the brand, the front seats can be equipped with side cushions that inflate or deflate electrically to adapt perfectly to the passenger’s morphology, and an AQS (Air Quality System) that constantly monitors the quality of the air entering the cabin and, if necessary, automatically activates the air recirculation system. In the GT, it is complemented by the Clean Cabin air treatment system, which filters polluting gases and particles. As an option, soundproofing can be improved with laminated front glass, combined with a high-fidelity Focal system, with 690 W amplifier, 10 speakers and subwoofer.
It is available in two trim levels, Allure and GT. The Allure has single-colour paint and upholstery that is half leather-effect and half fabric, as well as keyless entry and start system, HD rear camera, rear parking sensors, LED headlights and rear lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, i-Cockpit with two 10-inch digital panels, etc. The E-3008 GT, with a sportier finish, includes two-tone paint with black roof and Alcantara upholstery, 20-inch wheels, Pixel LED headlights, front parking sensors, powered tailgate, heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless charger, customisable ambient lighting, Panoramic i-Cockpit with 21-inch curved screen, customisable i-Toggles and connected information system.

Three electric variants
Conceived from the outset as an electric model, it has three fully electric versions: a front-wheel-drive variant with 157 kW (210 CV), with a range of 525 km, 2 driven wheels, 210 CV/157 kW; a two-wheel-drive version with 170 kW (230 CV) Long Range, which promises up to 700 km of range, and a dual-motor variant, all-wheel drive and 240 kW (320 CV), which claims 525 km.
The new generation of motors promises more power and greater efficiency. The two-wheel-drive versions deliver 343 Nm of torque, while the all-wheel-drive version incorporates the 157 kW motor at the front and a rear one of 83 kW, which adds an extra 166 Nm of torque. It includes a 400 V lithium-ion battery, with a nickel, manganese and cobalt chemical composition, in capacities of 73 kWh for the front-wheel or all-wheel-drive versions and 98 kWh for the long-range version (700 km). To improve efficiency, it has a heat pump and battery cooling system, which comes with a warranty of 8 years or 160,000 km at 70% of its capacity.

To adapt to driving conditions and driving needs, the driver can choose between four modes: Normal, the default mode in which power and torque are slightly reduced when pressing the accelerator pedal between 0 and 70%. The Eco mode provides smoother driving and lower consumption through a specific accelerator calibration, limiting power and torque and reducing the performance of the heating and air conditioning. In Sport mode, steering, accelerator and gearbox parameters are modified for more dynamic driving, while 4WD, exclusive to the all-wheel-drive variants, distributes power to all 4 wheels when driving conditions require it and is available up to 135 km/h.
It allows AC charging system, with 11 kW three-phase charger as standard and 22 kW as an option. On DC it supports a charging power of up to 160 kW, which allows going from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes for the standard-range version, and in less than 30 minutes for the long-range version. In addition, it features a V2L function to power external devices directly from the battery up to 3 kW. It also has 3-stage regenerative braking via paddles.

It promises a turning circle of 10.6 m and comes as standard with a rear camera offering rear view or bird’s-eye view and a self-cleaning system. As an option it can be equipped with the VisioPark 360° system with 4 cameras located near the wheels and 12 sensors. It also offers semi-autonomous driving with the Drive Assist Plus system with adaptive cruise control and Stop & Go function and lane-keeping assist, semi-automatic lane change system, early speed recommendation, etc.
In addition, it has an automatic emergency braking system with collision warning, active lane departure warning with lane departure correction, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, hill descent control and advanced traction control with 3 modes: snow, mud and sand.
