Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo: the first electric SUV from Porsche

The Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo presented at the Geneva Motor Show is a preview of what will be the brand’s first electric SUV, with 600 CV of power and a range of more than 500 km.

Take a good look. It’s called Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo. And although it is presented at the Geneva Motor Show as a “concept car”, as usually happens with prototypes of Porsche it will soon drop the “concept” label and become a reality.

The race for electric mobility never ends. And the brand itself makes clear that the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo, developed on the basis of the Mission E electric sports car presented in 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, is an SUV very close to production, both aesthetically and technically. The road version is expected in 2019.

Electric, but a true Porsche

Whatever lies under the bonnet, you expect performance and sporty handling from a Porsche. Relax, the Mission E Cross Turismo does not disappoint. And if not, take a look at the figures. Its two electric motors deliver a combined output of 600 CV (440 kW), allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 200 km/h in just 12 seconds.

Power is distributed between the two axles through the Porsche Torque Vectoring system. The four-wheel steering helps improve stability. And there is no shortage of adaptive air suspension –it allows the ground clearance to be increased by 50 mm– or the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) system with active roll control

With its 800-volt architecture, Porsche announces a range for the Mission E Cross Turismo of more than 500 km, and the ability to recharge the batteries at a high-power station –like those being prepared in the IONITY ultra-fast charging network– to achieve 400 km of range in just 15 minutes. Of course, it is also prepared for inductive charging, with no need for cables.

The Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo inside

Externally the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo reminds us of a Porsche Macan, with a front inspired by the Mission E and the rear of the Panamera Sport Turismo. With a length of 4.95 metres, a height of just 1.42 metres and a width of 1.99 metres, its presence is imposing, highlighted by the 20-inch wheels with 275/40 tyres painted in an eye-catching blue.

At least in the prototype, the interior is configured with four individual seats. And the layout of the dashboard represents a step forward in the digitalisation of the interior, already seen in the brand’s latest models.

Goodbye to traditional buttons. Here everything is based on touch screens, although nobody will miss the classic controls. Especially with the new eye-tracking control system, which works thanks to a camera located in the rear-view mirror.

By the way, any resemblance between the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo and the Audi e-tron prototype –at least from a technical standpoint–, also presented in Geneva, is no coincidence.
