Porsche prepares an electric Panamera and the second generation of the Taycan
Porsche is moving decisively forward in electric mobility and is preparing an electric variant of the Panamera and a second generation of the Taycan.

Electric mobility is gaining ground at almost every brand, and although Porsche initially seemed reluctant to take this step, the models it has launched with an electric drivetrain have enjoyed considerable success among the brand’s followers. Porsche has just announced that it is taking a further step and that it is working on an electric version of the Panamera, a model that is quite popular.
And that is not all: the first fully electric model from Porsche, the Taycan, is already preparing its second generation, which could arrive soon. Both models are expected to use the same platform. In this case, it is the one used by the Volkswagen group, known as the Scalable Systems Platform (SSP).

The platform used suggests that Porsche wants a low floor and more legroom in the rear, in the style of the current Taycan. The centre of gravity will also sit low, which will benefit the vehicle’s handling.
According to Autocar, development of the new Panamera EV is still at an early stage. That said, the brand reportedly wants it to be roughly the same length as the current Taycan and to have a wheelbase similar to the long-wheelbase Panamera sold in China.
As for technology, the new Panamera EV will feature an 800-volt battery. This type of battery uses cells with higher energy efficiency and an anode with more silicon content than the battery models Porsche uses today.
It is not the only version of the Panamera in development, as a combustion-engine version will also be sold at the same time. The electric variant is expected to arrive around 2025, while the ICE version will remain available until at least 2030. Stylistically, both are expected to be very similar.
As for the second generation of the Taycan, it will share several structural elements with the Panamera EV. The basic structure, transmission and chassis will be very similar. Both models will also offer Level 3 autonomous driving.
The SSP platform will also be used in a new seven-seat SUV on which Porsche is working. This will be the model that debuts the platform for the brand, so we will see it in action before the rest of the vehicles.
