The Renault Alaskan is a four-door “pick-up” type car that is geared towards work in the countryside, although it is also an option for adventurers who need a large vehicle with good off-road capabilities.

Renault has launched it in Latin America, having been unveiled in the city of Medellín, Colombia. For the moment, the diamond brand has not confirmed whether it will reach our country, although it is quite likely, since one of the three places where this car will be manufactured is Barcelona, together with Argentina. Currently, the only place where it is produced is Mexico.

Its design, created between France, Japan and Latin America, blends the robustness that cars with this type of body always have with a modern touch featuring the latest brand image, with the large logo and a grille with three chrome slats. It also features full-LED headlights with C-shaped daytime running lights and multiple tension lines on the bonnet, which give it greater character. On the roof we see chrome roof bars. The rear strongly reminds us of a certain close relative from Nissan.

The chassis and a large part of the mechanical elements also come from Nissan. Renault says that the Renault Alaskan has a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, which is quite good. It also offers a ground clearance of 23 centimetres and fairly good approach and departure angles for leaving paved roads and driving across country.

Mechanically it is offered with two engine options, although this will depend on the market. Both use a 2.5 Twin-Turbo diesel block, delivering 160 horsepower in one case and up to 190 in the other. They can also be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed automatic.

In these vehicles the traction system is of vital importance. The Renault Alaskan has single-wheel drive on the rear axle for normal driving conditions, 4×4 for situations where grip is not very good, and 4×4 with reduction for the most difficult conditions such as mud or very steep slopes. It also includes an electronic differential simulator that works through the brakes and a rear limited-slip differential with a mechanical self-locking function. Hill start assist and hill descent control are also included.

As for the equipmentrenault-alaskan-5, it offers 16 to 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, a 5-inch TFT screen, Bluetooth, six speakers, a 7-inch touchscreen navigation system and a 360-degree camera, among others.
