Renault Symbioz, this is the new entry-level model in the French brand's C-segment lineup

The Renault Symbioz is presented as an interesting proposition for the B-SUV segment, aimed at families looking for a compact car with a spacious interior

Only a few days ago Renault was teasing its new model Symbioz, and now it is finally revealed in full. It is ready for its presentation. It is presented as a C-segment SUV with which the French brand now offers a triple proposition to cover the needs of any customer: the Symbioz sits on an intermediate step between the Captur, as an all-round model, and the Austral.

The new Renault Symbioz is a family-focused proposition, and it could be seen as a reflection of the latest Scenic with a combustion engine. In fact, the two are quite similar in their dimensions, although the Symbioz improves on them, and for the better: it will be even more manoeuvrable and offer a genuinely interesting interior capacity. The Symbioz is thus a C-SUV with a length of 4,410 mm and a width of 1,790 mm which, for today’s vehicle sizes in this segment, are modest, and, as I said, this will be reflected in its driving dynamics.

The Symbioz will be built on the same CMF-B platform used by other models such as the Clio, the Arkana or the Captur. In fact, the Symbioz takes its design directly from the Captur, and if we look closely they are similar right down to the rear overhang, where it receives its own styling that characterises it even more as a family SUV, translating into better interior capacity. The rear is presented with sharp lines following the design of the front and a light cluster that gives a greater sense of width, as does its tailgate, which will also allow easier and more comfortable access to the boot.

The boot will precisely be one of the Symbioz’s attractions. With a capacity of 492 litres it will carry a fair number of items, but here’s the catch: the rear seats are a sliding bench with a 160 mm travel, which increases boot capacity by an impressive 624 litres and, with the seats folded, up to 1,582 litres. And that’s not all: with the bench in its most rearward position, rear passengers can travel in complete comfort, with a 221 mm knee room.

If you have been following the launch of the new Renault Captur, you will have noticed that sitting in the front seats of the Symbioz is like being in the Captur: the dashboard is the same. Therefore, technologically speaking, the driver’s position stands out for its digital instrument cluster with a 10.3-inch screen, while the centre console has a 10.4-inch screen in portrait orientation for the infotainment system, fitted as standard on all trim levels. On top of all this, there is a large number of driver assistance systems and aids, whose standard fitment will vary depending on the trim chosen.

Mechanically, Renault announces that the Symbioz will initially be available with the E-Tech hybrid already fitted to the Captur, consisting of a four-cylinder 1,600 cc petrol engine together with two electric motors, resulting in a combined output of 145 CV, which also allows it, pending final homologation, to record a combined consumption of 4.6 l/100 km on the WLTP cycle.

Now we just have to wait for Renault to announce the equipment and prices of the Symbioz, a model which, at a suitable price point, could undoubtedly prove very interesting in our market.
