Subaru STI E-RA and Subaru Solterra STI Concept, the two electric proposals at the Tokyo Motor Show

The Tokyo Motor Show continues to offer new releases, and the ones presented by Subaru are now arriving. These are two electric concept cars named Subaru STI E-RA and Subaru Solterra STI Concept. Two prototypes that set the agenda for the electrification of the Japanese brand and show the technology being applied to keep advancing toward sustainable mobility.

Subaru STI E-RA

This first model is a study into applying technology that already exists and that the brand is testing for inclusion in its upcoming models. The goal is to put this model to the test on the demanding Nürburgring circuit. The brand wants to set this milestone below six minutes and forty seconds. This will happen in 2023, because the car still has to undergo several tests and updates.

It is powered by four electric motors and an integrated inverter from Yamaha. The four motors deliver 800 kW, equivalent to a considerable 1,088 CV. These motors are fed by a 60 kWh battery pack. Independent traction at each wheel allows each motor to receive information about driving conditions and deliver the necessary thrust on each occasion to meet the needs of every moment.

The name E-RA comes from Electric Record Attempt, and its aim is to deliver maximum performance on the track. Its look is a clear statement of intent and seeks to resemble a competition car. At the front we find LED daytime running lights. A pronounced front diffuser and wheel arches designed to optimise aerodynamics, aided also by the large air intake on the roof.

At the rear there is a large rear spoiler and a diffuser that enhance the sporty, dynamic character of the design.

As for the Subaru Solterra STI Concept, it is based on the production Solterra and its most visible distinguishing feature is a roof spoiler. It also includes several red decorative elements on the front splitter, the side skirts and the rear diffuser.
