The 3008 and 5008 Peugeot, now with mild hybridisation and ECO label
Peugeot incorporates a 48-volt mild hybrid system into the 1.2 PureTech petrol engine to offer the new versions called Hybrid, which carry the DGT ECO label.

A fully electrified option below the plug-in hybrids was missing from the Peugeot range – and from the other brands in the Stellantis group – since until now, neither the BlueHDI turbodiesel engines nor the PureTech petrol engines offered the possibility of mild hybridisation, being limited to the DGT C label. Now, Peugeot introduces the micro-hybrid versions, the 3008 Hybrid and the 5008 Hybrid, which, despite their name, are not full hybrids, but semi-hybrids, mild hybrids or Mild-Hybrid, as this technology is known.
The entry engine in this case is the 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder petrol, which now delivers 136 CV and is paired with an e-DSC6 six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. This engine takes the place of the 130 CV 1.2 PureTech with EAT8 torque converter gearbox, and will subsequently be offered in other models in the Peugeot range, both in the 208 and the 2008, the 308 and the 408. In all cases, the mild hybrid technology provides the advantages of the DGT ECO label.
The Peugeot 3008 micro-hybrid system
One of the main novelties of the new MHEV engine is the replacement of the torque converter gearbox with a new six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, whose housing includes the electric motor, the inverter and the electronic control unit. The electric motor delivers a maximum output of 21 kW (28 CV) and a maximum torque of 55 Nm. In addition to helping reduce fuel consumption by supporting the combustion engine with about 12 extra CV of power when accelerating hard, it can drive the vehicle on its own in certain situations.

According to Peugeot, the operation could be in zero-emission mode for more than 50% of the time. This seems excessive to us, as it is a percentage that most “full” hybrid cars do not reach. The homologation figures reflect consumption reductions of up to 15%, with savings that can reach 2.5 l/100 km in town, and around 0.7 l/100 km on the road.

As in micro-hybrid systems of this type, the electric motor also acts as the starter motor to start the combustion engine, to which it is connected by a belt. During deceleration, the electric motor works as a generator, recovering energy that is stored in a 48-volt battery with a gross capacity of 898 Wh, installed under the left front seat, which keeps the boot volume intact. The battery, designed to be effective throughout the vehicle’s service life, is guaranteed for 8 years or 160,000 km.

For these new versions, the digital instrument display features specific functions showing the energy flow of the system, the battery charge level, a power meter and the distance travelled in electric mode on each journey. A AVAS system is also added, which emits a sound when driving below 30 km/h, thus alerting pedestrians and cyclists to the vehicle’s presence.
The new Hybrid versions are expected to reach the market in spring.
