Macan 3

2016 has started off in fine style for Porsche. Following the launch of the new 718 Boxster and the 911 R, a new version for the Macan now arrives.

The smaller of the German brand’s two SUVs receives a new entry-level engine, becoming the second model to feature a four-cylinder powertrain.

The Porsche Macan is built on the foundation of the Audi Q5, thanks to synergies within the VW Group. It is the second SUV model from the German firm, following more than 10 years of solo success for the Porsche Cayenne. This second model is more geared toward urban environments, moving with greater ease through traffic.

While the Audi Q5 offers several diesel and petrol versions with four-cylinder engines (2.0 TDI and 2.0 TFSI), the Macan has until now had no four-cylinder engine, with the entry version being the Macan S Diesel with a 250 CV 3.0 TDI. In petrol, the least powerful variant, corresponding to the Macan S, features a 340 CV 3.0 V6 Turbo engine.

Now the first inline four-cylinder engine since the discontinued Porsche 968 is added, as the new 718 Boxster use boxer-architecture powertrains, just like the Cayman and the 911. It is a new version of the well-known 2.0 TFSI from the VW Group, which is used just as well in a Skoda Superb as in a Golf GTI.

This Macan is the first step on the power ladder within the German model

Although the base is the same, the Macan’s engines are specifically tuned by the brand to deliver performance and a feel that are distinctly Porsche. In this version, this engine delivers 252 CV and 370 NM, and is paired with a 7-speed PDK automatic gearbox.

The performance is more than sufficient for a model of this type, with an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 230 km/h. Average consumption is rated at a well-balanced 7.2 litres per 100 km.

The equipment on this base version is very similar to that of the other versions, with features such as electric seats, Alcantara panels, the PCM II entertainment system, the electric tailgate, and the lane change assist system, among others. The price of the Macan starts at €55,600 in Germany.
