The BMW X5 is switching to hydrogen and will reach the market soon
The new BMW X5 will also have a hydrogen-powered variant which, although it is not yet ready to go into production, we have already been able to see.

Although it will not reach the market yet, we have already had the chance to see the new BMW iX5 Hydrogen and learn some of the details that shape this innovative model. What we have seen is that this hydrogen-powered variant keeps the same styling as the rest of the versions, with combustion and electric engines, which guarantees it will be fully recognisable.
This means that the model’s design is retained and does not stand out particularly for anything. Nor does it need to, because it is an SUV that already has a rather appealing image. The model seen in the picture will be, at least for the most part, the one that will soon be sold at the brand’s dealerships.

The latest tests of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen
This round of tests is aimed at refining the interaction between the fuel cell system, the high-voltage battery and the electric motor. In principle, this model’s range will reach 750 kilometres. This system will allow it to match the BMW iX5 electric in terms of speed and acceleration. It is expected to reach 100 km/h in under five seconds.

Filling the hydrogen tank will take only about five minutes, so it will be quicker to reach the maximum range of an electric variant and almost the same as a model with a combustion engine.
This model has a third-generation fuel cell system. The tests have been positive and it will soon be ready to enter the production line at the Steyr plant. Once it has been verified that all the elements of the fuel cell drivetrain work well in coordination, it is only a matter of time before this variant is given the green light. Not many units will be built, as it is not a particularly popular option at the moment, but it could become a good alternative to traditional fuel.
